Wednesday found some of us sick of food poisioning and missing Seattle, but that is ok, we saw on Saturday, July 27. Thursday we walked a great distance around the Puget Sound in Washington and it is just so amazing to think that in two short weeks, I've seen the waters of both the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. WOW.
Friday found us wandering the mountains and hiking trails along Mount St. Helens. In a devastating sort of way it was just simply beautiful. Words can not even begin to describe what was witnessed upon the 4,000 feet elevation we hiked. To see the devastation and the regrowth and reforestation, it is just breathtaking.
On Saturday, we traveled through the Cascade Mountain Range and went to a little Bavarain town called Leavenworth. Nestled right in the middle of the Cascade Mountain Range, it is like being right smack in the middle of the Alps. Yodel-ah-he-whoooooo!!!!! AWESOME!
Sunday found us right back in Seattle and at Pike Place Fish Market (watch for low flying fish!) and a day filled with nothing more than family fun all day!!!!! Too cool!
All in all, this has been a hiker's dream vacation. Our mountains back home are nothing to what we conquered here in Washington. Our Appalachian Trail ridden 'mountains' might be glorious to some, but once seeing this mountain majesty here in the great Pacific Northwest, one would be left to wonder........what if.
I now have a goal. I want to hike all 14,671 feet of Mount Rainier and hike the 240 miles of trails on Mount Rainier. I'd love to be able to hike all the way around Mount St. Helen's. Washington State is a hiker's dream and I am glad to have lived evenm a remote part of it!
