1998 Marching Band
The 1998 Blackhawk High School Marching Band has selected music from the wars for its show. Highlighted is music from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, World War II, and the Vietnam conflict. The band opens with a solo field drum and fife to "Johnny Comes Marching Home" and evolves into "Yankee Doodle" complete with "Grand Old Flag." "Sing, Sing, Sing" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" provides the backdrop for our drumset quartet, "Andrew Brothers Trumpet Trio, and Visual Ensemble feature. "California Dreamin' " and "Spinning Wheel" mark the turmoil which accompanied the Vietnam era with the clash of harmonies and ideologies portrayed by the band before resolving into the high impact moment provided by "America the Beautiful," complete with our American flag. The Blackhawk HS Band is directed by Robert Barthen with Assistant Russ Couch and Visual Ensemble Director Linda Barthen. The Blackhawk HS Band participates the Bands of America Eastern Regional Marching Band competion each year at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. The Band is also one of 80 bands accepted to compete in the Bands of America Grand Nationals Competiton to be held November 12-14 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, IN. The Blackhawk HS Band also participates in the Tournament of Bands as a member of TOB's Chapter 8. The band has been invited to the Atlantic Coast Championships each of the four years it has participated. 1998 Competition Results
