Hello all and welcome to my Haven. I go by Blue.
{Updated: 11/27/98} Wow! I've actually got a bit of new info on here. Can you believe it? Read on for photos and info. The format has changed a bit. I will be fixing it up as my school schedule allows, so thanks for your patience! If I make any mistakes, please point them out to me with some idea of where I can get the correct info. Endangered Animal Info Reptiles (updated turtle and in the news info!) Featured Animal of the Month...Manatees! Animal Photos This is sort of old news, but did you hear that President Clinton mandated that the govt agencies use recycled paper! Yeah he's done some bad things, but I approve of that one. Have you ever wondered how the Endangered Species Act works? Or what CITES actually stands for? Well visit the Fish and Wildlife service home page to find out.. www.fws.gov/r9endspp/esasum.html FOOD FOR THOUGHT: A little info on the so called "studies" about the effects of oil particles in the ocean... These studies say that lobsters are not harmed in growth at all in the presence of these particles. This may actually be true. However, what you are not told is that the particles DO affect the mating system. See, the female sends out a pheremone (or sex chemical) through the water as a message to the male when she is ready to mate. Since lobsters are such solitary animals, the message often has to travel a great length. However, oil in the water can often block these messages, which causes less reproductive activity and fewer lobsters as a result. Why do you think they are so costly? Just something to think about...
