PANCAKE OF THE MONTH
![](elliott.jpg)
In memorium for Frank Sperling, there will be no Pancake for this month. We are all saddened. Please help solve the crime.
This month: BUCKWHEAT
HISTORY
Little did 6-year old Hambone Williams know in the 1935 Our Gang Film, "Tha's Ma Dog, Mistah", when he uttered the phrase,"These flapjacks are otay", that a cultural revolution was initiated. To recount the rest of its history would be as redundant as reading the average American the Bill of Rights.
The Pancake Today
It's just fine thank you. Whether it's mentioned in the Macarena or yelled by Saddam Hussein in fiery blasphamy, the buckwheat pancake is never far from anyone's lips. Despite its implication in the murder of its ex-wife and a belgian waffle, most americans believe buckwheat pancakes are innocent...and delicious!Suggested Price
Town- $2.19, Highway- $1.99
The Month Before: SILVER DOLLAR
HISTORY
Silver Dollar Pancakes were presented to President McKinley by an ardent supporter of Presidential hopeful William Jennings Bryan in 1901. The supporter happened to be a chef at an eatery McKinley visited in nearby Springfield. McKinley, whose angry retort consisted of throwing the meal across the room, made headlines across the country: "Against Free Coinage of Silver/ Against 'Silver Dollar' Pancakes!" Across America, these pancakes became the rage.
The Pancake Today
Sadly, the Silver Dollar pancake did not experience the revival that the Buckwheat pancakes had in the early 70's, and is now the rarest form of pancake. If you see one in the wild, do not kill it, capture it and call local authorities. There are preserves in Maine with the goal of repopulation, so that one day perhaps they shall return to the forest. Suggested Price
Rural $1.99/ City $2.50
At my establishment, in CHAPELSNAP I only charge $1.69+tax!
