On the west side of Parque Bolivar is the cathedral. The original building was built in 1547 but it burnt down and was rebuilt in 1948. The Gran Hotel Guayaquil in on the same block. |

Although we were recommended not to go to Guayaquil (pop. 2,000,000), we liked our short stay there. At first we did not find the city very appealing but we did enjoy a walk along the waterfront and also one of the markets. |
