The ruins of Ingapirca> are Ecuador's major Inca site. It is possible to reach these by taking a dirt road at El Tambo (8 km). (Not as nice as the Machu Picchu but worth visiting.) |

This Inca site was built in the 15th century on the royal highway that ran from Cuzco to Quito. Soldiers were stationed here to keep the Caņaris under control. |
