This zigzagging road of approximately 6 kilometres leads to the Machu Picchu. It was opened in 1948 and was named the Hiram Bingham Highway. |
Finally, we were now staring at the majestic Machu Picchu (2,360 m). What a sight! It was discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. According to some architectural evidence, it was built by the Incas in the mid-fifteenth century. This spectacular 200 building complex of temples, towers, palaces, baths, and the famous sundial require at least a day to visit. We stayed here two days and should have stayed longer. |
