Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu

This zigzagging road of approximately 6 kilometres leads to the Machu Picchu. It was opened in 1948 and was named the Hiram Bingham Highway.

Finally, we were now staring at the majestic Machu Picchu (2,360 m). What a sight! It was discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. According to some architectural evidence, it was built by the Incas in the mid-fifteenth century. This spectacular 200 building complex of temples, towers, palaces, baths, and the famous sundial require at least a day to visit. We stayed here two days and should have stayed longer.
