These agricultural terraces near the main entrance were most likely used for growing maize. These prevented valuable soil from being washed down the mountainside. |

If you intend staying overnight at the Machu Picchu, I recommend the government run Hotel de Turistas . You can also stay at Aguas Calientes. It's just a few kilometres away. |
