| The Lauca National Park entrance is about 150 kilometres from Arica. Beware of the soroche! We were well prepared for the altitude because we had just arrived from La Paz, Bolivia. |
| Just as we entered the Park we saw our first vicuņas. They are similar to the llama but their wool is much softer. At one time they were almost extinct. Now, there are over 10,000. |
