Santo Domingo de los Colorados is named after the Colorado Indians. Their hair is plastered with a red dye of achiote. We had difficulty finding men wearing their traditional hair dress so we had to ask someone to drive us to the outskirts of the city. For a few dollars I was allowed to take a few pictures. |
The 130 kilometres from Quito to Santo Domingo are really exciting and extremely scenic. The road drops almost 3,000 metres down the western slopes of the Andes and is truly a tortuous descent. It is recommended going before noon because the view can be obscured by fog. |
