The Golden Dragon's Den:

You reach the end of the first corridor you've chosen to explore, to find yourself in a small chamber with only a white altar, carved into the shape of an outstretched arm, lifting up from the floor, the palm cupped as if waiting to hold something. You wonder what's so interesting about this chamber, when suddenly, the crystal sphere you've been holding in one hand grows almost painfully warm to touch and flares with a white-hot flash of light. Crying out in surprise, you let go of the orange sized crystal, and look on in wonder, as it does not plummet to the hard marble floor, but rather begins to float through the air to land in the expectant, carved palm. As the sphere nestles against the marble fingers, of the hand, the chamber begins to fill with a shimmering, silver glow and images begin to float in the depths of the sphere. The shadows grow darker within the crystal's center, then.....amazingly, the very air seems to split open as a shaft of pure white light lances from the crystal sphere and through it steps a tiny woman, no taller than your waist. Her soft brown hair, tinted with golden highlights, is cut short, and a pair of gentle, grey-blue eyes stares at you with enthusiastic welcome. Stepping forward to greet you, she extends a small hand, and as you reach down to take it in your own, she begins to speak: "Hi there!" She smiles warmly, revealing nice straight teeth. "I'm Gabrielle, welcome to my world." You smile and nod in return.... too shocked to manage anything in the manner of a verbal reply. She plops down onto the floor in front of you, and as she does so, you notice that her arms and legs are shorter than such appendages usually are. Curious, you wonder why she is this way...... Like the Golden Dragon you'd met before, this little lady seems able to read your mind....for she begins to answer your query before you can voice it aloud. "I was born this way....even though my parents are both 5'10." she laughs lightly, upon seeing the look of surprise on your face. "I'm a Diastrophic Dwarf....or as I prefer to be called, a "little person"." You nod your head, having heard of Dwarves before. "I'm 26 yrs old and reside in the realm called Pennsylvania, in the Country of the United States..." She reaches into the pocket of her pants and withdraws a small sketch and shyly passes it over to you. As you take it carefully, you nortice that the drawing is one of the Golden Dragon whom you'd met before coming to this chamber. Noting the amazingly lifelike detail in the piece of artwork in your hands, you look at your host with profound respect. Handing back the drawing, you wonder what else this unique lady likes to do. Again, as if sensing your unspoken desires, she begins to tell you more about herself......."I taught myself how to draw and in addition to fantasy and wildlife drawing, I love to read and write fantasy fiction. Also, I love horses, both to draw, and ride, though I do not seem to have much time these days for the latter. I like most sports, and types of music...." She groaned suddenly, wrinkling her nose in distaste as she added, "But I do not much care for Rap, Heavy Metal, Opera or most vocal Jazz. I like to sing and have been in one choir or another while growing up over the years. I have a love of poetry, both to read it and write my own....and in addition, I love dancing, movies, going out to dinner, being with my friends and family and helping others." She pauses.....looking you in the eye and flashing a large, radiant smile. "Hence my appearance here, when you brought the sphere back to its rightful resting place. It was a signal that someone had entered my chamber and that my presence was needed. I try to greet all who are sent here personally." Turning to look back at where the sphere was settled in the carved hand's palm, she continued. "I assume that you've met Sunfyre then?" She turned back to me, a strange secretive smile tugging at the corners of her gentle mouth. Suddenly wishing that you could know what she was thinking, you wait for her to go on, wondering if she intends to. But suddenly, after glancing at the crystal, you grasp the realization that you cannot take the light giving sphere on your next trip through the corridors. Wondering what it'll be like to travel in pitch-blackness, you glance around with increasing dismay at the bare, polished walls of pale pink marble, flecked with gold and black onyx. There's not a torch or a wall sconce in sight! What you wouldn't give for a flashlight!! Hearing a sudden, pleasant giggle behind you, you turn back to see Gabrielle on her feet, pointing to one of the arches that leads out of the chamber. Through the chosen archway, you can see a pale-blue light, which pulses and seems to beckon to you with a silent, irresistable call. Realizing that you'll not need the sphere's illumination after all, you turn to bid your helpful hostess farewell, only to find that she's vanished back into the thin air from whence she appeared. Strangely saddened by the loss of your new friend, you walk slowly towards the glowing corridor, wondering what lies at the end of this passage....as you step beneath the archway....a gentle voice speaks in your mind: "I'll be here if you should need me, just whisper my name three times and I'll be summoned to your aid. Til then..." The voice was fading to nothing more than the faintest of whisers, as she added..."just call for SUNFYRE...... Smiling to yourself, with a new lightness in your step, you start down the pale-blue lit corrider, on your next path of discovery.........
