Hello and welcome to the Erie Classical Guitar Society !
"The guitar (Lute) holds all of the emotions of a full orchestra" - Johann Sebastion Bach
I was a classical guitar major at Edinboro State University in the early 1970's and have learned that the classical guitar is an instrument that the learning never stops and, if taken seriously, the enjoyment never ends.
A few years ago, when the internet started becoming used at higher levels, I would scan cyberspace for Classical Guitar Societies. I was surprised that there were no Classical guitar organizations listed in our area. There were local players listed for lessons and such, but no sharing societies available in our area. I contacted several of the Classical Guitar Societies and discovered that they can be formatted in many ways, and can have any number or members. So it was decided in mid 1997 that a society would be started for classical guitar playing and appreciation in Erie. The Erie Classical Guitar Society was born!
Our meetings have no set schedule but are advertised in Erie Daily Times SHOWCASE section. These meetings are also open to non-players, who just enjoy classical guitar moods and music. Don't be afraid to attend if you can't play like Segovia (no-one does !) or do not play at all ! But if you can play, at any, repeat any, level please bring your guitar. Many players have attended, and it is nice to know that there are so many classical guitarists right here in Erie. Some members have even built there own guitars from kits and from scratch ! (They are called Luthiers !)
The Erie Classical Guitar Society does not endorse or sell anything. If any of our members give lessons or sell some type of product , they should be contacted after any meeting in private conversation. However, minimal dues are asked for, for purchasing items to be shared by members., and after you have attended a few meetings you will be asked to help out, if possible. The level of these dues are decided on by the attendees.
We encourage you to attend a meeting in the near future and hope you enjoy our website...keep checking back as we will be adding many resourses for the classical guitar enthusiast!
Please sign our guestbook before you leave and tell us about yourself!
