I wrote this for my son
Derek,
who was severely injured
in a DUI crash.
MY STRENGTH
by Peggie Bouse
As I sit here while your
in such pain
Our lives flash by me
once again.
I think of all the tears
and joy
Then wish you were still
a little boy.
My heart gets warm and
is filled with glee
As I recall the days of
just you and me.
The first step that made
you fall
And hit your head upon
the wall.
The way you tackled that
with pride
While I just sat right
down and cried.
When I came home with
your brother Gene
You cried and pouted and
caused a scene.
A scene which helped you
understand
That you would always
be my first young man.
And side by side we raised
your brother.
With you as his idol and
me as his mother.
Although at times we did
lock horns
I thank the Lord for the
day you were born.
Cause in my heart I love
you dearly
As I watch the man you're
becoming yearly.
This was written November
1986 while Derek was a patient at Shriners Burn Center in Boston.
