Cheryl’s professional gospel career began in 1979 when she became a member of the Philadelphia Mass Choir of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. Also in 1979, she became a founding member of the David Winslow Singers of Philadelphia. In later years, she expanded her horizons and also joined the Savettes Choral Group of Philadelphia. As a member of these organizations, Cheryl was introduced to many gospel pioneers. Even during those early days, Cheryl was known for her strong alto voice and consequently was often contracted to sing background vocals for such Gospel greats as Rev. James Cleveland, Evangelist Shirley Caesar, Rev. Isaac Douglas and Minister Keith Pringle during their Philadelphia appearances. As time progressed she relinquished her membership in the Savettes and the Philadelphia Mass Choir. In 1990, she became a member of the Tri-State Mass Choir of the Edwin Hawkins Music and Arts Seminar and in 1997 she became a charter member of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. Music Auxiliary. She was also a 1997 delegate of the Bobby Jones Gospel Explosion series. As a result of her association with these organizations, Cheryl has toured both nationally and internationally, and has appeared on several local and national television broadcasts and was honored to sing for President Clinton’s 1997 Presidential Summit which was held in Philadelphia. In addition to her participation in these community groups, Cheryl has also performed in several theatrical plays at Philadelphia’s famed Merriam Theatre. The roster of plays in which she has sung include: "Say Amen Somebody" and "Lawd, Have Mercy".
Cheryl has been a member of the First Corinthian Baptist Church of Philadelphia for over 25 years were she is now employed as the Church Office Manager. Since 1971, she has been a member of the Thomas Chorus were she also serves as Assistant Directress. Cheryl is also a member of the Deaconess Board, the Sunday School and the Culinary Arts Group. She was also the Church Librarian and the founder and Director of one of the church’s evangelistic ministries, Genesis One Enterprises, which manages the church's webministry, desktop publishing and travel consultation. She is a past Co-chairperson of the Youth & Young Adult (Spring) Revival and has served as a Chairperson for Unity Day for two years.
A 1975 graduate of Overbrook High School and a 1979 graduate of Temple University and a former teacher in the Philadelphia School System, Cheryl was employed by Americhoice,Inc for 13 years where she served in a managerial position. She was also a travel consultant with Stalbaum Travel of Bala Cynwyd, PA and Espri Travel of Philadelphia, PA.
