OBITUARY- BACK FROM THE DEAD (ROADRUNNER) 5 OUT OF 10

this is not obituary's best work. this is half assed. i dont know what happened here, but the songs are not nearly as good as those on their previous albums standouts are "threatening skys", and "platonic disease", and thats it. the rest are slow, boring, and monotone. hopefully their next album will be somewhat listenable.

ANAL CUNT- I LIKE IT WHEN YOU DIE (EARACHE) ummmm....

if your not familiar with ac, then you are in for a treat. im not even gonna review this because those of you who know this band, know what this cd(and every other cd they have out) sounds like. if you havent heard this band, go buy it. its worth the money. (MS)

INCANTATION- UPON THE THRONE OF APOCALYPSE (RELAPSE) 7 OUT OF 10

well, i picked this cd up out of curiosity, and i have mixed feelings. the music is here, the production is not. this is a rough mix of some newer cd that they have out. so my question is, why release this? ive heard demos that sound better than this. somehow i dont think that this was the incantation cd i should have got. im gonna pick up the new cd. hopefully it isnt a rough mix. why the hell do you put out a rough mix? im stumped. anyway, totally satanic with goats heads and pentograms in the artwork. the art scares me a little actually. i hope these guys arent serious. anyway, im gonna look for another incantation cd. (MS)

DEATH- SYMBOLIC (ROADRUNNER) 6 OUT OF 10

this is my first taste of the band known as DEATH, and again, i think i bought the wrong damn cd. ok, this is heavy, but not as heavy as everyone says. this is their newer cd, and ive always heard that their older stuff is alot better. so maybe ill get one of them. but this cd is really not too bad, it is fast and heavy, and the drummer is probably the best ive ever heard. actually, all the guys in this band are awesome at their instruments. the singer doesnt have the usual death metal growl. he kinda has a carcass-ish voice. all in all, worth the 15 bucks i paid for it. (MS)

IN TONGUES WE SPEAK. NAPALM DEATH/COALESCE SPLIT CD. (EARACHE) 9 OUT OF 10

two of my favorite bands on one cd. plus, for only 6 bucks. just like a sore dick, you cant beat it. 2 songs from each band, all of which are awesome. if you like either of these bands, get this. its only 6 bucks. you cant lose. (MS)

CARCASS- WAKE UP AND SMELL THE... (EARACHE) (9 OUT OF 10)

oh yeah, carcass. one of my all time favorites. what we have here is a collection of live tracks, old songs, new songs, unreleased stuff, and more. this cd has it all. this cd shows how carcass goes from crazy grind-gore, to a more groove oriented, metal band. hey, i love the old shit, the new shit, and everything in between. if you never heard carcass, get this. this is a fine cd. (MS)

CATHARSIS- SAMSARA (CRIMETHINC) 10+ OUT OF 10

im not sure how to begin this. so ill just say right off the bat that this might be my favorite hardcore cd, ever. i had always heard how awesome catharsis was, but never really bothered to check em out. so about a month ago, i was placing an order with very distro, and i decided to get this. thank god i did. this band is simply amazing. intelligent, powerful, brutal, and thought provoking, all at the same time. musically they are hard to pinpoint. sometimes sounding like swedish death metal, sometimes like metalcore, sometimes just straight up metal. most songs are faster paced, but usually have multiple breakdowns that build into a sonic explosion that hits you like a ton of bricks. and to really hear the band at their finest, take a listen to track number 10, "the evolution of dying". this nearly 10 minute long song really shows that these guys can play their instruments, going from soft, almost jazzy beats, to an explosive ending. i seriously dont know how they do it. this cd isnt for all, but if you are into twisted metal/hardcore that actually has something to say, get this. i promise you wont be sorry. "CHOOSE YOUR HEAVEN, AND FIGHT FOR IT TILL DEATH, OR BE CONTENT TO LIVE IN HELL". awesome. (ms)

CONVERGE- WHEN FOREVER COMES CRASHING (EQUAL VISION) 10 OUT OF 10

i first heard converge when i bought their last cd "petitioning the empty sky". i thought that it was a fairly good cd. the band definaly had a style of their own. so i picked this cd up one day, and was blown away. they took their trademark sound, and doubled it. chaotic, ripping, screaming, and metallic hardcore. tons of off time beats, crazy guitar riffs, layered screaming, and some really wierd production. and they even have a soft, nice, pretty song. emo metal at its finest. (ms)

DISEMBODIED- IF GOD ONLY KNEW THE REST WERE DEAD (FERRET) 8 OUT OF 10

oh yeah, disembodied. after being blown awy by their last cd, i was eagerly awaiting this. i get it, try to get the wrapper of the fucker for about 5 minutes, then put it in my cd player. what came out is so tuned down, mid-tempoed, sludgy, metal core. with better production that the last cd. only 5 songs though, which kinda sucks. tons of dance beats, raging vocals, and tons of grooves. the only bad thing about this band is, they rarely pick up the tempo. they opt for a more groove oriented pace, as opposed to speedy blasts that all the other metal core bands use. overall, damn heavy. cant wait to get the revelation release. (ms)

BARRIT- SMILES UPON THE STROKE THAT MURDERS ME (ELLINGTON) 7 OUT OF 10

man, MA is a breeding ground for evil metal core. now you can put barrit up there with boston heavy weights overcast, converge, shadows fall, etc... barrit have that crazy metal thing going on, but this sounds totally diffrent from typical metalcore. i hear some swedish death riffs in there, and the band has 3 diffrent singers. one has a dwid style voice, and the other 2 have that screaming thing ging on. the only thing wrong with cd is that the songs are just too damn long. sometimes you find tourself getting bored. but, usually there are enough time/tempo changes to keep your interest. i really dont hear very much hardcore influence here, although a member of bane is in the band. this is pretty much straight up metal, with a touch of hardcore. not bad at all. (ms)

DEAD EYES UNDER- CURSED BE THE DECIEVER (+/-) 6 OUT OF 10

out of curiosity i picked up this cd, and im still not sure on it. sometimes i like it, others im not too into it. i think the thing that bugs me is the fact that these guys arent very original. they have the usual metalcore sound, and they dont really stand out from the pack. the riffs just arent that heavy or brutal. goes from grind, to slow and plodding, but we've all heard that a thousand times over. the one thing this has going for it is the singers voice. he has a screaming voice, and a death voice, and they actually go well together. it sounds really cool when he layers them. all in all, not a bad release, but ive heard alot of other bands do it better. (ms)

ABNEGATION- VERSES OF THE BLEEDING (GOOD LIFE) 3 OUT OF 10

can you say crap? how about a waste of 12 bucks? please, dont buy this. this is horrible. abnegation play the usual death metal/ death core crap. this probably wouldnt be half bad if the production was there. the only thing you can hear is the drums and the vocals. and even they sound muffled. all in all, shit. pure shit. (ms)

if you wanna review some shit, send it to me, ill put it up. i need some more reviews for this page. if you want me to review your bands demo, cd, etc...email me. i like free stuff.
