THIS is fun! |
I remember decorating the gym for the
Homecoming Dance when I was in high school. Some students brought
watermelons and after the decorations were finished, we had a delicious
watermelon feed sitting on the gymnasium floor. It was great fun. However, I don't remember a thing about the Homecoming dance itself. |

Have you taken a trip during which you had a
memorable time getting to your destination, but don't remember anything
about the destination? |
Sometimes we wish our lives away.
|
THIS is life! | ||
Perhaps we forget to live now. |
My sister Jeanette and brother LeRoy were working
on preparations for celebrating our parent's Golden (50th) Wedding
Anniversary. Our parents had lived in the same small town for 40 years
and both Mom and Dad are from large families. So there would be a huge
crowd at the celebration. "This is lots of work." LeRoy said. "I surely hope that the celebration is going to be fun!" A staunch believer in living in the present, Jeanette answered, "THIS is fun!" After a great deal of teasing, LeRoy had a t-shirt made for Jeanette. It had the slogan |
It's a
matter of attitude. Concentrate on enjoying the present moment. Life is what we are living right now. It is impossible to live in the future. |
||
THIS is fun! |
Some people live FOR the present moment. Every need
is immediate. No patience and no planning for the future. That's not what I are talking about here. I am talking about living IN the present. We've all met people who actually live in the PAST or people who live in the FUTURE and just try to survive the PRESENT. This is what I am talking about. I have periods during which I tend to live in the past or the future and just try to survive the present. However, the present is all we have right now. Live in it and take from it whatever we can enjoy, learn, or love. |

My 3-4 year old niece Nita was helping us get ready
for a backyard picnic. She was happily carrying out eating utensils,
paper plates, cups, and anything else we'd let her carry. My father was putting the hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. Nita would take frequent breaks to watch. Finally, the picnic was ready and everyone sat at the picnic table to eat. That is, everyone except Nita. "Come, Nita," my father called her. "It's time to eat." Putting on her sad face, "No," was all Nita said. "Why aren't you going to eat anything?" my father asked her. "'Cause," Nita pouted, "after I eat, the picnic is over." |
After I eat, the picnic is over. | |||||||
My young niece knew that the enjoyment was in the preparation. |
THIS is fun!!! |
