...WEAK TORNADO IN BELLEFONTE...CENTRE COUNTY...

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM CONFIRMED THAT A WEAK 
TORNADO (F0...WINDS AROUND 60 MPH) TOUCHED DOWN BRIEFLY IN 
BELLEFONTE...CENTRE COUNTY AROUND 5PM.

THE SURVEY TEAM FOUND A NARROW 2 MILE LONG PATH OF DAMAGE EXTENDING 
FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST...FROM APPROXIMATELY WATER STREET ACROSS 
CURTIN AND HIGH STREETS TO THE BLANCHARD STREET EXTENSION JUST 
SOUTHEAST OF MULBARGER ROAD. THE DAMAGE PATH WAS ONLY ABOUT 2 BLOCKS 
WIDE...OR ABOUT 1/4 MILE WIDE.

WHILE THE DAMAGE APPEARED TO BE CAUSED BY STRAIGHT LINE-DOWNBURST 
WINDS...A TRAINED SPOTTER CONFIRMED A BRIEF TOUCH DOWN OF A SMALL 
TORNADO IN THE VICINITY OF TALLYRAND PARK AS THE STORM PASSED.

THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED FROM THIS STORM.

ZCZC PHLPNSCTP TTAA00 KPHL 301945 PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STATE COLLEGE PENNSYLVANIA 335 PM EDT SAT MAY 30 1998 ...DOWNBURST WINDS CAUSED ROOF DAMAGE IN LOCK HAVEN AND MILL HALL IN CLINTON COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA ON MAY 29... A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STATE COLLEGE OFFICE DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM DETERMINED THAT SEVERE THUNDERSTORM DOWNBURST WINDS FROM THE NORTHWEST GUSTING TO AROUND 70 MPH CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO SEVERAL ROOFS AND MANY TREES IN SOUTHERN CLINTON COUNTY PA BETWEEN 440 AND 510 PM EDT ON FRIDAY MAY 29. THE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE INSPECTED INCLUDED: IN MILL HALL - A LARGE PART OF THE ROOF TO THE CLINTON COUNTRY CLUB HOUSE WAS LIFTED OFF THE STRUCTURE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE BUILDING. IN PORTER TOWNSHIP - HALF THE ROOF WAS BLOWN OFF ST. PAULS CHURCH AND DEPOSITED 50 TO 100 YARDS AWAY. IN BEECH CREEK - A MOBILE HOME WAS CRUSHED BY A LARGE TREE BUT NO INJURIES AND ROOF DAMAGE OCCURRED AT ARMSTRONG INDUSTRIES. ADDITIONALLY AREAS OF SIGNIFICANT TREE DAMAGE OCCURRED IN LAMAR TOWNSHIP AND IN LOCK HAVEN WITH TREES ON CARS AND MANY DOWNED POWER LINES. THERE WERE SCATTERED DOWNED TREES THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN CLINTON COUNTY. BUDD NNNN
