...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONFIRMS 2 SMALL TORNADOES IN LYCOMING
COUNTY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TOURED EASTERN PARTS OF LYCOMING
COUNTY TODAY AND CONFIRMED THAT THE DAMAGE FROM THE STORM THAT
STRUCK AREAS EAST OF PICTURE ROCKS ON TUESDAY EVENING WAS FROM TWO
SMALL TORNADOES.

THE FIRST TORNADO STRUCK ABOUT 6.5 MILES EAST OF PICTURE ROCKS
AROUND 7 PM.  THE WIDTH OF THE STORM WAS ABOUT 100 YARDS...AND IT
FOLLOWED A PATH ABOUT 1 MILE LONG.  IT WAS RATED AS AN F1 TORNADO
WITH WINDS OF 73 TO 112 MPH.  THIS TORNADO WAS ESPECIALLY
NOTEWORTHY IN THAT IT APPEARED TO BE ANTICYCLONIC...ROTATING
CLOCKWISE...A RARE EVENT FOR MOST TORNADOES.  HAIL THE SIZE OF A
HALF DOLLAR WAS ALSO REPORTED WITH THE STORM.

THE SECOND TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN A MILE EAST OF THE FIRST STORM 
SHORTLY AFTER 7PM.  IT WAS ALSO RATED AN F1 INTENSITY WITH A PATH
WIDTH OF 1/4 MILE AND A PATH LENGTH OF 1 MILE.  THE SECOND TORNADO
HAD NORMAL CYCLONIC...COUNTER CLOCKWISE ROTATION...INDICATED IN THE
DAMAGE PATTERN.

IT BOTH EVENTS DAMAGE WAS CONFINED TO TREES WITH NO DAMAGE TO
STRUCTURE OR INJURIES REPORTED.
