ABUS34 KBGM 022257 PNSBGM NYZ009-015>018-022>025-036-037-044>046-055>057-062-PAZ038>040-043- 044-047-048-030400- PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BINGHAMTON NY 655 PM EDT FRI JUL 2 1999 ...STORM SURVEY IN BRADFORD COUNTY PA CONFIRMED A TORNADO... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BINGHAMTON NY HAS CONFIRMED THAT AN F0 TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN YESTERDAY...THURSDAY JULY 1ST...AROUND 800 PM IN SOUTHERN BRADFORD COUNTY. WINDS WITH THE TORNADO WERE ESTIMATED TO HAVE BEEN NEAR 70 MPH AND IT'S WIDTH AVERAGED 100 YARDS. THE TORNADO CROSSED THE COUNTY LINE INTO OVERTON TOWNSHIP APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES WEST OF THE VILLAGE CENTER AND THEN SKIPPED NORTHEAST OVER THE RIDGETOPS FOR ABOUT 3 MILES BEFORE DISSIPATING. CONSIDERABLE TREE AND POWERLINE DAMAGE WAS DONE ALONG THE TORNADO'S INTERMITTENT PATH. THE MOST NOTED DAMAGE OCCURRED ALONG A SEGMENT OF CAHILL ROAD WHERE SEVERAL TREES SLAMMED INTO A CABIN. THE TORNADO THEN NARROWLY MISSED A RESIDENCE ON MARSHALL ROAD AND ALSO A CABIN FURTHER NORTHEAST ON JUNKS HILL ROAD. SEVERAL RESIDENTS REPORTED SIGHTING THE TORNADO IN THE AREA BETWEEN 755 PM AND 810 PM. THIS IS A PRELIMINARY STATEMENT REGARDING THE STORM DAMAGE SURVEY CONDUCTED TODAY. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS CONFIRMED THAT AN F1 TORNADO TRACKED ACROSS NORTHWEST SULLIVAN COUNTY YESTERDAY...THURSDAY JULY 1ST...AROUND 740 PM. WINDS WITH THE TORNADO ARE ESTIMATED TO HAVE BEEN AROUND 80 MPH. THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN ONE AND A HALF MILES NORTHWEST OF THE TOWN OF LINCOLN FALLS AND TRACKED EAST FOR 5 MILES TO HUGO'S CORNERS. THE TORNADO WAS ABOUT 200 YARDS WIDE. CONSIDERABLE TREE DAMAGE WAS DONE ALONG THE TORNADOE'S PATH. FOUR HOUSES WERE DAMAGED AND A BARN WAS COMPLETELY DEMOLISHED. A SAWMILL HAD ITS TIN ROOF LIFTED OFF AND TOSSED SEVERAL FEET TO THE NORTHWEST. MUCH OF THE OBSERVED DAMAGE WAS ALONG MCCARTHY ROAD NORTH OF LINCOLN FALLS. .END/MSE
