...A WEAK TORNADO CONFIRMED IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY...

A SMALL TORNADO OCCURRED IN NORTHWEST CLEARFIELD COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA 
BETWEEN 730 PM AND 740 PM ON THURSDAY AUGUST 16. THE PATH OF THE 
TORNADO WAS APPROXIMATELY 3.5 MILES LONG AND ABOUT 50 TO 100 FEET 
WIDE. 

THE TORNADO BEGAN ABOUT 2 MILES SOUTHEAST OF LUTHERSBURG AND 
CONTINUED NORTHEAST TO ABOUT A HALF MILE NORTH OF ANDERSON STATION 
IN BLOOM TOWNSHIP. INTERMITTENT TOUCHDOWNS WERE REPORTED ALONG THIS 
PATH. A SMALL BARN WAS DESTROYED NEAR ROUTE 219 AND STATE ROUTE 4008 
WITH DEBRIS FROM THE BARN LOCATED FOR SEVERAL MILES ALONG THE PATH. 
MOST OF THE DAMAGE ALONG THE PATH WAS FROM UPROOTED AND SNAPPED 
SMALL TREES. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR DEATHS.

THE SMALL TORNADO WAS WITNESSED BY SEVERAL PERSONS...INCLUDING THE 
CLEARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR...NEAR KRINERS 
AUCTION ON ROUTE 219. ONE WITNESS REPORTED SEEING TWO FUNNELS AT 
ONCE.

ALTHOUGH TREE AND STRUCTURE DAMAGE WERE LIMITED...THE SMALL TORNADO 
HAD ESTIMATED TOP WIND SPEEDS OF 70 TO 75 MPH AND CAN BE CLASSIFIED 
AS A WEAK F1 OR A STRONG F0 TORNADO ON THE FUJITA SCALE.

THE TORNADO DAMAGE WAS SURVEYED BY THE CLEARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY 
MANAGER AND NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ON FRIDAY AUGUST 17.

ROTATION DIMINISHED AS IT MOVED INTO NW CLINTON COUNTY AROUND 9 PM. 0-3 KM HELICITY CONTINUES TO INCREASE RAPIDLY TONIGHT BASED ON 18Z ETA BUFKIT HOURLY PROFILES AT KUNV. VALUES EXCEED 200 M2/S2 AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT...BUT POTENTIAL FOR TORNADOES WILL DECREASE BASED ON LESSER UPDRAFT STRENGTH AND SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER CAPE.
