COUNTY...
A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM HAS CONFIRMED THAT A
TORNADO HIT NEAR THE TOWN OF MILTON...IN TURBOTTE TOWNSHIP...
NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY ON SUNDAY EVENING. THE TORNADO WAS RATED AN
F1...CAUSING WINDS BETWEEN 73 AND 112 MPH.
THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN JUST WEST OF GRANGE HALL ROAD...ABOUT 3
MILES EAST OF MILTON AROUND 640 PM SUNDAY EVENING. THE TORNADO
CAUSED A DAMAGE PATH ABOUT 1 1/4 (1.25) MILES LONG AND ABOUT 4
TENTHS (.4) OF A MILE WIDE.
PARTS OF ROOFS WERE RIPPED OFF 2 BARNS AND A TREE LIMB WAS HURLED
THROUGH THE WALL OF A HOUSE. NUMEROUS OTHER TREES WERE ALSO FELLED
BY THE STORM. IN ADDITION...HAIL WAS REPORTED FROM DIME TO QUARTER
SIZE. THERE WERE NO KNOWN INJURIES FROM THIS STORM.

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM HAS CONFIRMED THAT A
TORNADO OCCURRED IN WHITE DEER TOWNSHIP...4 MILES NORTHWEST OF THE
TOWN OF NEW COLUMBIA...IN UNION COUNTY ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 27 1998.
THE TORNADO WAS RATED AN F1. AN F1 TORNADO CONTAINS WINDS RANGING
BETWEEN 73 AND 112 MPH. PEAK WINDS WITH THIS STORN WERE ESTIMATED
TO BE 90 MPH.
THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN AT APPROXIMATELY 625 PM AND CAUSED A
DAMAGE PATH ABOUT 2 1/2 (2.5) MILES LONG AND 1/4 (0.25) MILE WIDE
IN WHITE DEER TOWNSHIP. THE TORNADO WAS EMBEDDED IN A LARGE AREA
OF STRAIGHTLINE DOWNBURST WIND WHICH WAS ABOUT 8 MILES LONG...
EXTENDING ROUGHLY PARALLEL AND JUST SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 80 FROM
8 MILES WEST OF NEW COLUMBIA EASTWARD INTO NEW COLUMBIA.
THERE WERE NO INJURIES FROM THIS STORM BUT DAMAGE WAS REPORTED.
ROOFS WERE PARTIALLY REMOVED FROM THREE BARNS AND A METAL SILO
CAVED IN. SEVERAL SMALL SHEDS WERE BLOWN OVER AND ONE HOUSE
RECEIVED DAMAGE FROM FALLING TREES. THOUSANDS OF TREES WERE
BLOWN DOWN ALONG THE WHITE DEER PIKE JUST SOUTH OF I-80.

...F1 DOWNBURST IN NORTHERN CAMBRIA COUNTY...
A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM FOUND STRAIGHT LINE
WIND DAMAGE ACROSS NORTHERN CAMBRIA COUNTY. THE SCATTERED DAMAGE
SWATH COVERED AN AREA ABOUT ONE MILE WIDE BY SIX MILES LONG. THE TEAM
FOUND DAMAGE FROM JUST EAST OF HASTINGS...THROUGH SAINT BONIFACE AND
THOMAS MILLS AND INTO PATTON. THE DAMAGE WAS MINOR UNTIL PATTON.
JUST SOUTHEAST OF PATTON EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO TREES WAS FOUND
AND MINOR DAMAGE TO THE ROOF OF A HOME. IT WAS IN THIS AREA
THAT THE WIND PEAKED BETWEEN 70 AND 80 MPH.

ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 27TH...
WHILE STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE OCCURRED JUST WEST OF
PATTON...A SMALL TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN AT 620 PM...NEAR
PATTON...AND TRACKED EASTWARD FOR 7 MILES. THE STORM
ENDED AROUND ST. AUGUSTINE.
THE TORNADO WAS RATED A WEAK F1...WITH MOST OF THE DAMAGE
BEING F0. MAXIMUM WINDS WERE BETWEEN 70 AND 85 MPH.
PATH WIDTH WAS 100 YARDS WIDE.
A 2100 GALLON WATER TANK WAS MOVED A QUARTER MILE.
OVER A 100 TREES WERE BLOWN DOWN. DAMAGED TO A
PHEASANT FARM OCCURRED.
