American Green Frog
Rana clamitans
The American Green Frog is one of the most common frogs in Pike County. It can be found in streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, puddles, and wetlands - just about anywhere there is water.
Adult green frogs range from two inches to four inches in length. They eat just about any kind of insect as well as other small invertebrates. When startled, the Green Frog will leap into the water. It usually doesn't travel far. If one is patient enough to wait, the frog will usually pop its head up to the surface and remain that way until it is convinced that the threat is gone.
