Samhain is the equevelant to the Wiccan new year. It is seen as the renewal of the Wheel of the Year. This is the night that the old God died and returns to the Summerlands and awaits rebirth on Yule.
As it was in the past, many today still believe that this day is the day that the veil between our world and the world of the dead is at it's thinest. Spirits and those we once loved return to join in on the celebrations of the night.
Some people still practice today what was once common custom, that is feeding the dead. Making small soul cakes to put out to appease those spirits that are wondering by.
