Koenigsegg is a relatively new company that started around 1994. Even though it is new, this car will and has been compared to the McLaren and the Ferrari F50. That isn't too wild considering it shares a lot of the technology proven on the McLaren like the chassis and engine. The engine is like the McLaren's in that it has 12 cylinders, but has a much smaller displacement and other unique features that are common to engine built by Motori Moderni Meccanica, a specialty engine builder that has produced engines for the likes of Mario Andretti, Eddie Cheever, and Emerson Fittipaldi. This engine was a special build engineered by Mr. Carlo Chiti. It weighs in at a featherweight 180 kg. The engine isn't the only focus of this car, though, as the padding in the seats is the NASA engineered Tempur (copyright sign) that molds to a body. Koenigsegg hopes to have this car ready for the '99 season to go racing in the US IMSA or FIA-GT1 classes.
