What kind of media consumer are you? In renewing the mind of the media,
the U.S. Bishops encourage all of us to be more thoughtful about the movies,
television and music we choose and the web sites we visit. Take part in
the Renewing the mind of the Media pledge set for Dec. 16/17. Pamphlets
are available in the church vestibules with further information. Also included
on the pamphlet is a pledge for families to make regarding the promotion
of Responsible, Moral and Ethical Media. Please take one home.
Advent
a holy season of grace
advent might best be described as "devout and Holy Expectation." What
is it that we await - and how do we do this in a holy and devout way?
Advent speaks of 2 comings of Christ. During the first weeks of Advent
we look to the coming of Christ at the end of time. Far from being a "countdown
to Christmas" it is a count up to that day which, as Christ warned us,
no one can know the day or the hour. This signals not only the end of time
but the inevitability of our own death and the certainty of judgment.
The last weeks of advent focus our attention to the birth of Christ
200 years ago in Bethlehem. The scriptures will turn us to Mary and John
the Baptist.
Let's make this a good advent by focusing on both coming - let our
holiness and devotion show thru in our prayers and charity!!
