Sexing Hamsters
It is very easy to tell the sex of hamsters. At a very early age you can see two rows of up to seven (number may vary) mammae spots or teats on the female if you hold her at arm's length. The body of the female is rounded off at the rear while the male has an extended rearwith a bulge under the tail where the testes are consealed. During the hot summer months they often become enlarged and appear red or mauve and are very pronounced. This is quite normal and is nothing to get worried about.
Both youngsters and adults can be sexed quite easily by examining the sex organs and their position. On the female the vagina is very close to the anus while the penis is much father away on the male.
