~Chapter 9~

The nice spring breeze blew through Brian's bedroom window. The smell of the rain that was supposed to arrive later in the evening lingered in the air. Brian sat indian style on his bed and flipped though his highschool yearbook. He smoothed the semi-wrinkled pages out with his fingers and moved his gaze from picture to picture. The pictures forced old memories to come back to his mind and he couldn't help but smile.

Brian turned the page and his eyes landed on Danielle's picture. She wore the smile that he loved to see. His heart started to beat fast like it usually did when he though about her. He knew he couldn't lie to himself anymore, he was falling for her. Brian sighed and closed the yearbook. He was falling for a woman who is already in love with another man.

Brian glanced over at the cordless phone that sat next to his bed. He hadn't talked to her in about a week and still never invited her to dinner. He picked up the phone and quickly dialed her number. The phone rung twice before someone answered. To his suprise, instead of hearing her happy cheerful voice he heard a man's voice. "Hello?" Brian's heart stopped. He knew who this man was. "Anyone there?" The voice asked. Brian quickly found his voice. "Is Danielle there?" "Yeah, one second."

The other end was silent for a moment until Danielle's happy cheerful voice appeard. "Hello?" "Danielle, its Brian." "Hey. How are you? We haven't talked in a while." She said. "I know, thats why I called. How are things?" Danielle sighed. "Good, but busy. Since the third quarter is almost over I've been working hard to add grades and figure out what I want on the exam. All though its only one class it still is a lot of work." "Yeah." Brian agreed. "So, how have you been? You leave soon, huh?" She asked. "Yeah, in two weeks."

They were both silent then Brian spoke. "So, I asked my mom about dinner. She wants you to come. Is this Thursday good for you?" "Are you sure?" Brian interupted her. "Yes, I am sure. Now stop, cause she really wants to meet you." "Okay. Thursday is fine. I'll be there around 6?" Brian smiled widely. "Thats fine." They both talked for a few moments more and then Danielle had to go because she had plans with Richard. Although Brian never met the guy he hated him.

Danielle pulled up in the drive way of the Littrell house. She walked up to the door and knocked lightly on it. Moments later Brian answered it with a smile on his face. He stepped aside to let her in. Danielle took a quick look around the living room as Brian closed the door behind her. He then turned and grabbed her hand. "My mom's in the kitchen." He said as he pulled her through the living room and to the kitchen. They walked in and Danielle saw his mom standing by the oven. She turned and smiled widely. "Danielle, it's very nice to finally meet you." Danielle smiled back. "It's nice to meet you too."

They all sat down for dinner. Jackie informed Brian that his father was working late and couldn't join them. The three of them talked about different things. Jackie asked Danielle about her teaching job. Jackie also talked about silly things Brian did when he was younger. Of course the whole time Brian's face was red with embarrassment After the food was gone and they talked for a little bit longer Danielle had to head home. Brian walked her to the door. "Thank you so much for coming." He told her. Danielle smiled. "Thank you for inviting me. You're mom is a great cook." "I know." Brian agreed.

His heart, once again started to race. "I'll call you later." She said. Brian nodded. Danielle walked out the door and to her car. She waved as she pulled out of the driveway. Brian watched as she drove down the street. He hated how things had to be so difficult. He knew she had a boyfriend and from how she talked about him they were quit serious. But he knew that even if she didn't, a relationship with her would never work. He lived his Orlando and he was on the road a lot. Brian sighed. That all may be true but he still was falling for her and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
