Collective Soul has asked its founding guitarist, Ross Childress, to leave the band under amicable terms, according to a spokesperson for the band at Farshid, Arshid Entertainment. Childress did not play any of the band's dates in September thus far, with Steep guitarist Joel Kosche temporarily filling in on the road. Animosity had been brewing between the band and Childress for a few years, and it finally came to a head in early September. The guitarist had become a "danger to the band" according to the spokesperson, although specifics were not divulged. Collective Soul will hit a recording studio in a few weeks to record a demo to shop around to labels, as its latest effort, the retrospective 7even Year Itch Greatest Hits -- 1994 -- 2001 has fulfilled its deal with Atlantic Records.
