June '05 "5.0 Mustang and Super Fords Magazine" Featured Car!!!"

Dad's 1991 GT was just in a full feature in the June 2005 issue of "5.0 Mustang and Super Fords Magazine" starting page 194. Check it out if you have the issue! CONGRATS DAD!!!

UPDATE April 11th, 2005: We got dad's car back together and got it on the dyno. Let's just say the results were more than impressive to me! How about 347RWHP/338RWTQ. Its amazing what a little bump in compression will do!!! Low 11's here we come!

UPDATE: WOW!!! Dad just kicked the door wide open and raced right into the 11's. How about a 11.84 at a whopping 117mph ON THE MOTOR!!! He did this on Nov 15th, 2004 at Cecil County Dragway.

UPDATE: HE DID IT!!! He finally ran in the 11's with a 11.95 at 115mph on April 17th, 2004 at Cecil County Dragway. WTG DAD!!!

This is my dad’s 91GT. He has owned it for 2 years now. He bought it in the summer of ’99 off of the original owner. We took the car to the track the week we got it to see what it would do in stock form. With nothing more than 14* of timing, and a ripped out air silencer, my dad managed a 14.8 at 91mph and I managed to run a 14.60 at 94mph. He then proceeded to add 3.55’s, Bassani offroad X pipe, 2.5” stainless steel flow tubes, Borla mufflers with turndowns, Comp. Engineering subframe connectors, Factory 5 upper and lower control arms, ASP aluminum underdrive pulleys, a Pro 5.0 shifter, a 76mm C&L MAF, a MAC cold air induction, and Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro tires. With this combination his car was running 13.6 at 98.99mph. He was happy with the car’s perfromance at that point, but he wanted more, a lot more! So over last winter he started buying the remaining parts he needed. First was the Holley Systemax II kit which included aluminum heads, a cam, upper and lower intake, timing chain, pushrods, and bolts. Then, as funds allowed, he added: 70mm Edelbrock throttle body, 30lb injectors, 255lph fuel pump, Kirban adjustable fuel pressure regulator, chrome tall valve covers, 1.6 stud mount FMS rockers, 3.73 gears, FMS shorty ceramic coated headers, and Mickey Thompson ET street tires. With this combo he’s running 12.6 at 107mph. On occasion, he’s managed to pull the driver side tire off the ground oh so slightly!

Unfortunately, he’s also encountered a few problems along the way. He continually has a problem with oil leaking into his anifreeze, and the motor developed a “squeal” at idle. He went and had new cam, main, and rod bearings installed to try to eliminate the squeal, but its still there! Also, the lower intake to head port doesn't line up well at all, so that is also a problem. He contacted Holley and they have agreed to ship him a brand new kit and he is to return his to see if this helps his oil in the antifreeze problem. We're now starting to suspect that the block may be cracked, if so a new one will make it into the car over winter.

My dad has lots of plans for the car over winter. Here's what he's doing: Sending his heads, as well as upper and lower intake to FTI to be ported, flow benched, and port matched; having a custom FTI cam ground; assembling a new short block consisting of the stock crank and rods, new block, stud girdle, and high compression pistons; he also is installing a tremec TKO tranny complete with a scatter proof bell housing and Tri-Ax shifter; and lastly he will throw in some 4.30 gears.

Bone stock the car went 14.60 at 94mph. With the above parts he has run a 12.6 at 107mph, he's even mustered a 1.6 60' a few times! He's hoping that the above plan will net him solid 11's at 115+MPH trap speed. Time will tell...

UPDATE 05-12-02: My dad's rotating assembly is now balanced. The new SRP pistons and pins weighed 120 grams lighter than the stock units, so take that time eight and that is a substantial loss in rotating mass... this thing is going to rev like crazy!!! He also just received his Strange 31 spline axles, 31 spline traction lock, 4.30 gears, and blue goodyear radiator hoses. The S&W 8 point roll bar is now installed, and the hatch area is now carpeted to match the rest of the interior. More to come... stay tuned!

UPDATE 07/15/02- Well its running! And man does it sound wicked! He is currently having the 4.30's and 31 spline axles installed. They were in, but there seemed to be a bad vibration in the rear so its being checked out. If everything works out right, it may be dyno tuned and have its first track appearance this week, we shall see. I doubt we'll break any records this first time out, but I know this car is going to scream as soon as its broken in!

UPDATE 10-27-02: Well, its not running quite where we expected it to, but its still impressive non the less. How about 323RWHP out of a naturally apsirated 302!!! The best time to date is a 12.4 at 112mph with a race weight of 3400lbs. The 8 point roll bar and SFI scatter proof bell housing added a LOT of weight. This winter the car hopefully will be put on a diet and dad will get the shift points and launch down.

UPDATE 11-09-02: Well, he got even closer, but the 11 second timeslips just were not cooperating. My dad ran a 12.1 at 111mph at keystone raceway... it was close but it just wasn't good enough.

UPDATE 02/16/03: Dad will be adding a SWEET set of Bogart D10 drag wheels this year. Bogart is telling us this alone should be worth 2 tenths... we shall see. Dad has a few other tricks up his sleeve too, but he doesn't want to give all his tricks away... stay tuned for better times to come this year!

UPDATE NOV. '03: Dad ran a new best at the SuperStallion of the Net race held at Cecil County Dragway. He ran a 12.01 at 115mph. He had that run beat when he raced against me on my best run, but he couldn't see the shiftlight due to the sun and missed 4th gear and blew the run... that WAS his 11 second pass. Oh well, maybe next year.

UPDATE April '04: HE DID IT!!! Dad ran a 11.9 at 115mph at Cecil County Dragway at the SSOTN Spring Nationals

UPDATE Nov '04: Dad ran a new best! He managed a 11.84 at 117mph! Unfortunately that was his one and only pass as the clutch let go in the waterbox on his second attempt! Not to worry, its all fixed now!
