Old 302 combo best time: 12.031 AT 112.51MPH!!!

MODIFICATIONS

This is my old setup. Before the addition of the AFR heads, FTI cam, 4.10's, and supporting fuel upgrades my car ran a 13.83 at 98.55mph with a 1.91 60' on my nittos. The first trip to the track with all the new parts resulted in a 13.67 at 103.29mph, adding fuel and timing brought a 13.55 at 104.48, even more timing and fuel resulted in a 13.27 at 105.09mph. This WAS the original goal for the car... low 13's at 105mph. I had some idle issues with the new cam (which is VERY common in 94-95's) so I added an EEC Tuner. With help from my canadian internet buddy Marc Gaumond I was able to cure my idle problems with an EEC Tuner. With the EEC Tuner on board, I broke into the 12's which was pretty much unheard of for a 94-95 coupe, let alone a convertible at the time. In horrid weather (it was 93* with 100* humidity) I ran my first 12 second pass at Mason Dixon Dragway in Hagerstown MD. The car ran a 12.96, this was during a bracket race in which I dialed in a 13.05. I knew at about the 1/8th mile that I was breaking out, but that also meant that I might have been on my way to my first 12 second pass... lucky for me I kept the hammer down and ran that time, but I did lose the race. Oh well, it was worth it!!!

UPDATE- ON NOVEMBER 1, 2001, I RAN A (then)NEW BEST OF:

12.73 AT 106.62MPH WITH A 1.76 60' ON MY NITTO'S!

UPDATE June 5th, 2003- I recently ran a 12.59 at 108.8mph on ET streets and a shortbelt. Click on the video section to see the run!!!

When I contacted Ed Curtis at FTI, I told him I wanted a daily driven convertible that would run a trap speed of 105mph or better. With my heavy weight I never thought my car could run as quick as it does, thanks to Ed and all his help, it keeps getting faster and faster nearly everytime I go to the track.

UPDATE: On December 1st, 2001 I had my car dyno'd at Kauffman Motorpsorts (717)528-8260 (they are located near Carisle PA). With the setup I was running with my EEC Tuner I dyno'd 293.1RWHP and 325.9RWTQ. Then Dave, a tech at Kauffman's, programmed my MAF transfer function via the EEC Tuner, and then we made a series of pulls to dial it in. Eventually, we got the numbers to 292.4RWHP and the torque came in at a whopping 327.8RWTQ! I am happy! BUT... we noticed a good bit of smoke coming from my oil breather cap, so I am experiencing a good bit of blowby.

UPDATE: I recently had the car redyno'd after changing a few things and it put down 304rwhp/331rwtq SAE

THANKYOU TO THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE...
I like to give a special thanks to Ed Curtis of FTI for all he has done for me, my dad, and my cousin Matt. With his help, we have made some hefty performers out of our cars. I'd also like to thank my dad and Matt for spending countless hours in an unheated garage in 30* temperatures to help get my car where it is today. And lastly, I thank my wife for exercising GREAT patients with me and my "expensive" hobby. Thanks Molly! I also can't forget Michael Johnson of 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords Magazine for the full feature of the car, Dave from Kauffman Motorsports for the EEC Tuner tuning help, Steve Monte from SJM Manufacturing for hooking me up with the Bogart wheels, and Walt from Pro Motion for the killer clutch setup.

UPDATE 08/31/03: I just installed a set of 31 spline Strange Axles and an Eaton carrier in my rear end. I'm doing this so I can launch HARD on my ET streets this fall to see just how far into the 12's I can go!!!

UPDATE November 2003: I just raced my car at Cecil County Dragway. I drove my car 4 hours there, bolted up the ET streets, shortbelt, and removed the passenger side seat and ran a...

12.31 at 111.15mph with a 1.66 60'!!!

WOW is all I can say. I always wanted to run at that track as its a little closer to sea level than my home track. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the slip... 111.15mph out of my NA 3670lb convertible!!!

UPDATE: In April 2005 I ran a new best before hurting the motor. The result was a 12.03 at 112mph!!! The new suspension from PA Racing really helped out, along with the new clutch from Pro Motion!

When I missed 4th gear at the track in April of 2005, that marked the end of my stock shortblock combo. Since then I built a 331 Dart block based stroker with most of the parts I had on the above combo. You can read more about it elsewhere on this site.
