  • 24 Adds John Billingsley, Jeffrey Nordling to the Cast
    Oscar Dahl, BuddyTV Senior Writer
    August 31, 2007

When you're more or less rebooting a beloved series, movie the setting from the west to the east coast, and totally dissolving the biggest and most important set your show has ever owned, you're going to have a lot new cast members. 24 has had an incredibly busy summer, whether it be trying to figure out what exactly season is going to be, or hiring an almost entirely new, full cast. The only returning cast members are Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer and Mary Lynn Rajskub as Chloe O'Brian. Today, it was announced that FOX would be bringing on John Billingsley (The Nine) and Jeffrey Nordling (Dirt) for season 7 of 24.

John Billingsley has been somewhat of a scene-stealer throughout his career, especially in last season's short-lived, but well-received The Nine. He's going to be playing a character named “Latham”. That is the only available information on the character, which leads me to believe that Billingsley will be portraying a bad guy. Latham just sounds like an evil bastard name, doesn't it? Jeffrey Nordling, on the other hand, will be playing an FBI Agent named Larry. There have been a lot of new FBI Agents cast this summer. How many FBI Agents does it take to catch Jack Bauer?

Janeane Garofalo, Rhys Coiro, and Nordling are all now cast as FBI agents. I could be wrong, but the plot for season 7 of 24 is coming into focus. Jack Bauer is going to be chased by FBI agents for some of the season and, in all likelihood, those same FBI agents will eventually team up with Jack to thwart an evil plan. I hope this isn't the case, because if I can accurately predict next season of 24, it means that the producers will not have done what they promised: get away from the formulas and patterns that have permeated the first six seasons.

Regardless, Billingsley and Nordling are nice additions to any cast.

Warner Premiere's ``Lost Boys 2: The Tribe'' is in Production
Frog Brothers Reprise Original Roles Under the Direction of P.J. Pesce
    August 31, 2007

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Corey Feldman returns to familiar turf in the Warner Premiere event, “Lost Boys 2: The Tribe,” the direct-to-DVD sequel to the 1987 cult hit “The Lost Boys” that also features his fellow Frog Brother, Jamison Newlander, along with Tad Hilgenbrink, Autumn Reeser and Angus Sutherland. The announcement was made today by Diane Nelson, President, Warner Premiere.

Principal photography began in late August on location in Vancouver, under the direction of P.J. Pesce. This sequel takes us to the shady surf city of Luna Bay, California, where vampires quickly dispatch anyone who crosses their path. Into this dark world arrive Chris Emerson (Hilgenbrink) and his younger sister, Nicole (Reeser). Having just lost their parents in a car accident, the siblings move in with their eccentric Aunt Jillian and become new prey for the locals’ way of life. When Nicole unwittingly falls for a local vampire, Chris must locate and destroy the gang’s lifeline before his sister’s transformation is complete; to do this Chris finds himself relying on the expertise of none other than Edgar Frog (Feldman). Subtle references to characters from the original film, and cameos from returning actors offer homage to the Lost Boys legend and set a sinister tone of impending doom.

“Last year when Warner Premiere was established, we knew we wanted to engage with fans of The LOST BOYS and have this title on our slate because the original is a favorite film of so many people,” said Nelson. “With Hans Rodionoff’s strong script, and PJ onboard to direct, we were able to realize this project quickly, casting up-and-coming talent like Autumn, Tad and Angus, as well as key players from the original with Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander returning as the infamous Frog Brothers. We have tremendous respect for Joel Schumacher’s original film and are striving to maintain the tone and integrity of the original, while offering something fresh to old and new fans alike.”

Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are set to reprise their original roles of Edgar and Alan Frog, respectively, in the vampire-centric sequel. Feldman shot to fame in the mid 1980’s starring in a number of successful films like “The Goonies,” “Stand By Me,” “License To Drive,” and two chapters of the “Friday the 13th” series. Following the success of “The Lost Boys,” Feldman also had a successful run with several television and music projects. Currently, Feldman is headlining a reality series on A&E called “The Two Coreys.”

“I am truly excited to be on board for this sequel,” says Feldman. “After reading the latest script I genuinely believe we can deliver a sequel the fans can sink their teeth into. I also commend Warner Premiere on their choice to include Jamison Newlander. Edgar Frog has been laying in wait for 20 years to stake some more vampires and that is exactly what he intends to do with his brother Alan by his side.”

Jamison Newlander is back as Alan Frog, the other half of the vampire-slaying Frog brothers, in the sequel. Newlander most recently wrote, directed, starred in and produced a comedy short called “The Rooster.”

Autumn Reeser stars as Nicole, a teenager who moves to Northern California and finds herself entangled with a gang of vampires. Reeser most recently starred on Fox’s hit teen drama “The O.C.” Her additional television credits include “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Cold Case,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Grounded for Life” and “George Lopez.” Reeser also appeared in “The Girl Next Door,” opposite Elisha Cuthbert and Emilie Hirsch.

Tad Hilgenbrink portrays Nicole’s brother, Chris, who – along with his sister – falls in with the dangerous gang of vampires. Hilgenbrink is best known for his role as Matt Stifler in “American Pie Presents: Band Camp.” He will next be seen in the horror film “30 Days of Night.”

Angus Sutherland, half-brother of “Lost Boys” star Kiefer Sutherland, stars as the leader of the gang of surfing vampires, echoing Kiefer’s ‘David’ from the original film. Sutherland appeared on the CBS political drama “Commander in Chief” and will next be seen in “Familiar Strangers,” due out later this year.

Screenwriter Hans Rodionoff is no stranger to the vampire genre, as writer and director of 1998’s “Sucker: The Vampire.” Other credits include co-writing TV’s “Saint Sinner,” based on a story by Clive Barker, and shared writing credits with director Mort Nathan on “National Lampoon’s Bag Boy,” slated for release in 2007.

P.J. Pesce is an independent filmmaker who has earned several accolades for his work through the festival circuit. In 1994, Pesce was named Best Independent Director of the Year at the Hamptons International Film Festival for his critically acclaimed film “The Desperate Trail,” which he wrote and directed. He also received a Special Grand Jury Award for his short film “The Afterlife of Grandpa” at the Houston International Film Festival in 1989. Pesce is the recipient of Grey Advertising’s Student Filmmaker Award and a Presidential Fellowship from Columbia University’s School of the Arts.

Basil Iwanyk and Phil Goldfine are producing the film, with Mary Viola, Alison Semenza and Rick Benattar serving as executive producers.

HOLLYWOOD - The sequel to Lost Boys will make it to the big screen after all, despite being originally planned to head direct to video--according to the film's costar Tom Savini.

The special-effects wizard and actor insist the filmmakers have changed their mind over the future of Lost Boys 2: The Tribe after the movie's leads Corey Haim and Corey Feldman have proved a success on their new reality show The Two Coreys.

He says, "Originally it was going to be direct to video, but because of the success of their reality show, The Tribe is going to go theatrical."

The former child-star duo will team up with Kiefer Sutherland’s half-brother Angus for the sequel to the cult 1987 movie.

    Production Delays Plague '24'
Kiefer Sutherland drama still expected to premiere in January

The producers of FOX's "24" are having a hard time getting this season's clock started.

For the second time this summer the production start date for the seventh season of "24" has been pushed back due to creative tinkering.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, shooting on the new "24" season was expected to begin on Aug. 27, but is being moved to Sept. 10 as writers scramble to complete a certain number of scripts.

At Comic-Con last month, producers admitted that the season's initial storyline -- rumored to take place largely in Africa -- fell through, a decision that initially moved the show's production start from late July to late August.

At the fan convention, the show's team admitted that they were attempting to correct some of the problems that plagued the lackluster sixth season of the Kiefer Sutherland-centric drama, specifically the repetition of certain season-to-season plot elements. The biggest change revealed at the time was that Los Angeles would no long be the center of the "24" action, with most events moving to Washington, D.C. In addition, the season would take place without CTU, at least not as an official government-sanctioned agency. It's unclear if those plans are still in the cards.

By this time last year, "24" was announcing guest stars at a rate of two or three a week, but the only new cast member announced so far has been Cherry Jones, playing the president of the United States.

As of now, "24" is still on target for its scheduled January premiere.

CCI Xtra: “24” Behind the Scenes
By Jamie Tarquini – Contributing Writer

    August 1, 2007

Fans lined up around four corners at Comic-Con International in San Diego for a chance to get behind the scenes of the hit FOX television show, “24.” With 30-minutes to go before the panel started, seating was already estimated to be at capacity and the line for entry was cut off.

Producer Manny Coto jokingly introduced himself as Kiefer Sutherland and decided to “blame season 6 on co-writer/Executive Producer David Fury.” As the panel began to a completely packed house, fans eagerly lined up to begin the Q&A session to ask questions from past episodes and pick the brains of writers to find out detail of the seventh season.

Before the questions even started, Coto told the crowd, “We're allowed to tell you three things: One – no CTU! Two – CTU has been disbanded by the government. Three – Jack Bauer is hauled in front of the Senate and forced to attest to his crimes. From there, he'll be dragged into something new.

Further details included the location for once would not be in Los Angles, but instead Washington DC, evoking great applause from the crowd. Actress Cherry Jones will play the role of the new the President of the United States and Mary Lynn Bradshaw will return as Chloe. AJ Pierce may or may not appear in the next season, due to scheduling difficulties. Also they announced that there are no plans to bring back the character Chase this season.

From there the panel allowed fans to pick the brains of the panelists. Most answers from the clever writers had fans laughing before getting to the answers.

Referring to an older woman from the previous season, a fan asked, “What about the cougar?” Evan said, “The cougar asked for too much money.”

The entire panel had fun with the criticism that season 6 has received, joking along the whole time with statements like, “This season will be better!” The other popular answer was, “Keep watching!”

    Is Tony still alive?

“Tony is alive and well in our hearts, and in New Jersey.”

What is the gap between Day 6 and Day 7?

“Honestly, we don't know, but it's generally between a year and 18 months.”

Have you ever thought about a prequel season?

“It has been thought of, but there's a problem with that. Our show lives and dies by who lives and dies. So without that added sense of suspense it's not as enjoyable.

How do you get downtown in two minutes?

“If we told you, everybody would do it! You need to know the right side streets!”

What is Jack's theme of season 7, as other seasons have had themes for Jack, including redemption and revenge?

“Great question, but we don't know yet. Jack's struggle is to get to season 8!”

How do you balance the big stuff with mini-stories that sometimes seem more fun?

“Those things are kind of spitballed and we come up for obstacles for him to overcome. We also have to stall characters, so that's why we come up with those scenarios.”

    What's in store for Audrey?

“She's doing another show, so it's up in the air.”

Is the kid Jack's son or not?

“What do you think? The reveal wouldn't that be that big of a surprise because fans thought he was anyway, so we decided to let that go.”

Apparently, in a behind the scenes scenario, the producers got better at telling the actors that they were going to die. Actors were also finding out that they were being killed off from other actors on the set! Some actors were planned to only stay fro a short time but things change as the season goes on. Peter Weller ended up talking himself out of getting killed and extended his term from five episodes to the rest of the season.

What is your involvement in the 24 the movie?

“We were very ambitious to think we can handle it. But we will have to handle the show, or the movie. Maybe after it's over on television they will make a movie.”

Where can you purchase the amazing Jack Bauer PDA?

This question evoked a huge laugh from the crowd, but lead into a discussion about Homeland Security, which can do most of what they do on “24,” but “just not as fast as Chloe.”

How do you plan on adapting the “24” format to a movie?

“It'll be a 24-hour movie. Still working on it.”

    What about Jack and women?

“Jack is difficult to be in a relationship, seeing as how during the day he's kind of busy.”

Who gave Jack the magic bag, or man purse?

“Only Jack can look cool with one of those. It was created by writers for plot points, but Kiefer turned a backpack into the cool magic bag.”

Were there any plot twists that you'd like to change?

“We would have stayed with Jack's brother and father a little longer and explored that triangle.”

The writers then talked about what was almost a season 6 cliffhanger that will be on the DVD. In the scene, Jack's standing on the cliff looking at the rocks, and out of the shadows walks Tony Alameda and says, “There's a lot to talk about Jack, come on.”

There will be no cut scenes on the DVD, but there will be behind-the-scenes features.

Is there room to improv in the script, or do you write the word “dammit” that many times? “It's mostly from Kiefer. He found out once that fans play a drinking game where they drink every time he says ‘dammit.' He once had a scene where he said it five times in a row and came off the set saying, ‘They'll have fun with that one!'”

Do you listen to fan feedback?

“Yes, but by the time we get feedback it's usually too late.”

After that, the packed crowd clapped and thanked the panelists for the show, which “24” fans obviously felt was worth the 30-minute wait.
