All the animals in the game are given "qualities". This is so you can make ethical decisions on breeding or not breeding an animal and to judge who wins in shows. They are given a number for their type (conformation to standard), coat, coat color, and gait (movement). Their total score is out of a possible 220.
Type describes how closely a dog meets its breed standard. This is very important when showing and breeding so is on a scale of 1-100. Conformation would suffer if a dog has a tailset too high, too large ears, ears too low set, poor shape of head, lack of good stop, long back, and so on. I do not breed dogs of under 90 in conformation unless there is a pressing reason to do so.
Coat describes how well the coat meets the standard. If the dog's coat is too full, or too sparse, or too long, or too flat, etc. etc. its score will suffer. You aren't given a reason as to why EXACTLY the coat score is lower but just use your imagination. Coat can score from 1-20. I do not breed lower than 10.
Color describes how well the color or pattern meets the breed standard. As poms can be any color, you couldn't easily get a disqualifying number in this category, as far as I know. You can however have poor coloring, for example an unappealing shade of orange, a rusted out black, a too-pale chocolate, nose the wrong color, eye circles wrong color, etc. Color can score from 1-20. I do not breed lower than 10.
Gait describes the way a dog moves. A score of 1-80 is possible, with 41-80 being desirable. Dogs 41-65 are probably decent movers, not limping, but are not perfect. Dogs 66-80 move very well. I don't breed lower than 40 and I aim to breed well above that.
Agility & Obedience These are scores for two activities I commonly participate in. I do not rule a dog out as a breeding prospect because of poor agility or obedience skills but it is a consideration. Scores of 1-100 are possible.
All dogs bred after 10/1/99 will be assigned these qualities based on the qualities of their parents. Prior to that it's a random draw. You don't receive exact qualities (the breakdown), just a general overall # until you show your dogs. Then you get a breakdown that is rounded to the nearest 5. As they gain points you get a better idea of their qualities. This is modeled after real life because if you don't show you don't know which dogs are "show quality" and therefore worthy of breeding.
