Methos stood at the back of the theater, watching the performance before him take shape. He had only just begun to love the young actress that stood upon the stage. They had met at the end of the opening performance of the musical, and clicked immediately. He sometimes found himself wondering if she would be wife number 70. The thought made him smirk.
The young blond woman slowly recited her lines. Methos took in her voice as he concentrated on the words that were coming from her mouth. He closed his eyes so he could focus on her voice...and only her voice. In the distance, however, he heard a pounding noise, followed by a creak. His eyes shot open.
Glancing around the theater, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Methos started to slowly walk towards the stage. As he neared it, he listened again. The creaking was louder, and the actors were doing their best to ignore it. Methos glanced up just in time to see the inevitable. Someone had cut some wires on the heavy curtain rod...and now it was breaking away from its foundation and about to come crashing down on the actors on the stage.
"Look out!" Methos shouted. "The curtain's coming down!!"
Toni turned to face the man she had fallen in love with. "Adam, we're trying to rehearse. You promised that you'd be quiet."
Methos hopped up on the stage, aware of the fact that he didn't have time to argue with her. The curtain rod broke loose and sped towards the stage. Methos lunged at Toni and the man she was sharing the scene with and pushed them out of the way. The curtain rod crashed down on top of Methos.
"ADAM!!" the woman shouted as she rushed over to him. "Bryan, help me get this thing off of him. Carmen, call 911!!"
Toni, Bryan, and some other members of the group hoisted the heavy rod off of Methos. Bryan leaned over to check for a pulse.
"He's gone, Toni. He's gone." he told her after finding no pulse.
Toni collapsed onto the stage next to Methos. "Adam, please." she sobbed. "Please don't leave me." The tears streamed down her face.
A few people huddled uncomfortably around, not quite sure what to say or do. A few were crying themselves. Others were whispering ‘I'm sorry's' to Toni.
"C'mon guys. Let's give her some space. She needs some time to be alone." Bryan said, pushing some of the people toward the exits. The group filtered out until only Methos' unmoving body and Toni were left on the stage, her sobs echoing off the walls of the empty theater.
Suddenly Methos' lungs filled with air. He gasped for his first breath. Toni jumped back.
"Y-y-you w-w-were d-dead." she stuttered, shocked by what had just occurred.
Methos slowly sat up and breathed easy. He saw Toni backing slowly away from him. In the background Methos heard the cry of ambulance sirens. He nervously glanced around the empty theater. "Come with me, Toni."
Toni shook her head. "You - dead - curtain - ambulance..." her voice trailed off.
"There's no time to explain here. Come with me. Let me explain to you." Methos shouted. He reached out a hand to her.
Toni stared at his outstretched hand, unsure of what she should do. Hesitantly she reached out her hand and put it in his. He tightly grasped it and pulled her towards the back exit. He opened the door and the two of them dashed out into the alley and towards Methos' loft.
Toni slowly sat down on Methos' bed. He was pacing back and forth in the room, trying to think of what to say.
"Will you still love me tomorrow when you find out what I am today?" he asked her.
Toni stared at him, unsure of what to say. Finally she nodded.
"I'm not Adam Pierson." he stated. "My name is Methos. I'm over five thousand years old and I cannot die."
Toni shook her head in confusion. "I don't understand." she whispered.
"I'm immortal." he explained. "I've met Cleopatra, Shakespeare, Helen of Troy. I even rode with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. I was death myself."
"Like in the Bible?" Toni asked, a little disbelieving.
Methos nodded.
"Halleluia!" she called out. "Things are getting weird."
Methos walked over to her. "I'm not the only one like this. There are others."
Toni pushed him away. "I knew it. I can never date a ‘normal' guy! I'm forever destined to date mental cases. Just when I think that everything is finally turning out right for once. My world was perfect!"
"In a perfect world I'd find my place." Methos stated. "This is who I am."
"That's who you are?" Toni shouted. "I'm the human race! If I could change things, then perhaps I could deal with this."
"Try to change me?" Methos yelled back. "What a f***ed up waste."
Toni shot him a hurt look. "That's not what I meant."
"Here I am being honest with you and you don't accept me for who I am?" he screamed. "What others hide, I'm laying it down. I want you to stay. I want you to be with me."
Toni shook her head. "It's strange. I want to run away, but I never wanna leave."
"Do you have faith knowing what you've found? " he asked her. "Because if you do, you were meant to stay."
Toni hesitated.
"Will you still love me tomorrow?" Methos asked her. "Please, Toni. I need my answer."
Again she didn't answer.
"Will you?" he asked. "Will you?"
Toni took a deep breath. "Adam...sorry...Methos, I don't know if I can deal with all of this."
Methos let out a hurt sob.
"But, I will do my best." she continued. "Conformity is our tragedy, right?"
Methos smiled and moved over to embrace her. "I love you Toni." he said.
"I love you too." Toni replied.
Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow
By Leah Androne
Daddy screams, so I hide and sing
A disillusioned voyeur, studying the sane.
God keeps whispering in the devil's ear,
"Halleluia! Things are getting weird."
Nakedly perverted, Possessive and free.
I wanna run away, but I never wanna leave.
I got an axe to grind and a mouth to match
You better hear me out, don't let me crash
(Chorus)
The blues in my eyes take me swimming
I try to dance, the floor keeps moving
My swollen lips, the words aren't forming,
The curtain's coming down
Will you still love me tomorrow
When you find out who I am today
Will you know my name tomorrow
When you hear the things I have to say
Will you still love me tomorrow
I'm black on white, I'm the human race.
Call me Eve, How's the apple taste?
In a perfect world I'd find my place
Try to change me, what a f***ed up waste
The body's cold, the whispers chill me
Expose myself, am I still pretty
Are you so flawless, or is it gutless?
That you can't except me?
(Chorus)
Will you still love me tomorrow
When you find out who I am today
Will you know my name tomorrow
When you hear the things I have to say
Will you still love me tomorrow
Talking it into the ground
Do you have the faith knowing what you found
What others hide, I'm laying it down
Conformity is our tragedy
(Chorus)
Will you still love me tomorrow
When you find out who I am today
Will you know my name tomorrow
When you hear the things I have to say
Will you, will you
Will you know my name
