Chapter 13

"Lauryn!" screamed Chase and nelt down beside the body. He picked yp her hand and started crying. "Why?" he sobbed.

"You do know that she's not really dead, right?" said Erica.

"Look who's talking! It's the girl who went psyco when that Chris wimp died," said Chase.

"You take that back!" said Erica.

"Make me."

"Your momma!"

"My momma?"

"Yes, your momma."

"Your momma."

"Your momma got more chins than a Chinese phone book," said Erica.

"Ooh!" said everyone.

"Your momma's so stupid that on her credit card bill it said sign and she wrote Scorpio," said Chase.

"Ahh!" said everyone.

"Jerry! Jerry!" said Joey. Everyone turned and looked at him. "Sorry, I just had to," said Joey.

"Okay, can you guys stop cause I can't stand bad your momma jokes," I said.

"Okay. Sorry, Nat," said Erica.

"Well, who did it?" asked Chase.

Everyone was silent. I was thinking that maybe this was the time to turn Joey in, and I looked at Lance as if to ask him. Lance shook his head, so I stayed quiet.

"Where's that old guy?" asked Chase.

"You mean Fred?" I asked.

"Whatever his name was. Where is he?"

"I dunno. Not here."

"He could've done it," said Chase. "He might have wanted revenge on whoever killed his wife."

"So you're saying you killed Gertie?" I questioned.

"I didn't say that!" screamed Chase obviously caught off guard by that statement.

"It was implied," I said. "Why would Fred kill Lauryn if you didn't kill Gertie?"

"He's old. He was probably having hallucinations," said Chase.

"Whatever," I said. Chase was obviously trying to hide something. I now had another suspect.

Justin and I left the mansion a few minutes after seven.

"You look especially lovely tonight," he said as he opened the car door for me.

"Thank you," I said and slid into the seat. He walked around to the other side of the car and got in. It was about a ten minute drive to Le Mario's. After we parked and walked into the resturaunt, a short Italian man greeted us.

"Hello, my name is Lee Mario. Welcome to Le Mario's French/Italian Resturante. How can I help you?" he said in an Itaian accent.

"Reservations for Timberlake," said Justin.

"Ah! Your table is right over here," said Lee and lead us across the dining room to a small booth in the back. The booth had a curtain that you could pull across it for privacy.

"Can I get you anything to drink?" asked Lee.

"I'll have a Coke," said Justin.

"Root beer," I said.

"Okay. I'll have those for you in a minute," said Lee and went into the kitchen.

"It sure is pretty in here," I said admiring the low lighting and elaborate wall decorations.

"Yup," said Justin.

Just then a storlling violinist came up to us.

"Can I play anything for you two?" he asked.

"Do you know "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You" by 'NSync?" asked Justin.

"Se! My daughter is in love with that group. She has posters all over her room," said the violinist. Obviously, he didn't go in his daughter's room very much because he didn't even find Justin vaguely familiar.

"Could you play that?" asked Justin, and the violinist played the opening measures. To my surprise, Justin stood up and started singing. He started the verse that I knew all to well, but this time it was more special because he was singing directly to me.

"Can this be true," he started, "tell me, can this be real? How can I put into words how I feel? My life was complete, I thought I was whole. Why do I feel like I'm losing control? I never thought that love could feel like this. Then you changed my world with just one kiss. How can it be that right here with me there's an angel? It's a miracle."

Then the chorus started.

"Your love is like a river, peaceful and deep. Your soul is like a secret that you never could keep. When I look into your eyes I know that it's true. God must have spent a little more time on you."

"Se! That was beautiful!" said the violinist. "You sing just as well as those 'NSync boys."

"Thank you," said Justin sheepishly and tipped the violinist. The violinist walked away and Justin got down on one knee.

"Alyse," he said.

"Yes."

"Will you marry me?"
