Chapter 5

I had to stop having these South Park dreams. Every night Kenny died and Cartman asked for cheesy poofs or whatever they're called.

Then I felt someone move beside me, and I woke up. I was laying next to Lance on the couch in the living room. I looked across the room and saw Chris kneeling over something. I got up and saw that it was the "dead" body of Kennith McDan, the director of the mystery week.

Chris must have actually yelled, "Oh my God! They killed Kenny!" because soon everyone in the mansion came to see the first dead body. Nadine and Josh came in together, soaking wet. I decided not to ask.

"I always knew he'd be the first to die," said Ray, the mystery novilist.

"How?" I asked.

"I'm a writer. It's the typical plot."

"Oh," I said. This guy was definately creepy.

Then something by the fireplace, near Kennith's body, caught my eye. It was a silver bracelet, likt the ones Sydney was wearing. When no one was looking, I picked it up and put it in my pocket. I had my first two suspects.

After that everyone went back to their rooms and slept for the rest of the night.

When I woke up the next morning I went to breakfast and sat with the guys, Nadine, Erica, Alyse, and Rose. Yasmine refused to sit with us because we were sitting with "them" (she won't even say the word *NSYNC). When I sat down, I noticed that Joey was wearing yellow Dr. Martins.

"You trying to be like Zac Hanson, Joey?" I asked.

"What do you mean?" he said.

"The shoes. Everyone knows Zac has those and always wears them."

"Oh. I didn't know."

"Oh."

Josh came and sat down beside Nadine.

"Mornin' all," he said.

Everyone but JC said polite hellos.

"Who invited you here?" JC asked.

"Well, Nadine is kinda my girlfriend so I assumed it was okay to sit next to her."

"Oh," JC said sounding disappointed.

We finished our breakfast and then Lance, Erica, Chris, and I went to the barn.

"Which horses should we ride?" Chris asked.

"Wellm why don't you ride him? He doesn't look very tough," said Erica pointing to a tame looking pony. Then she went to his stall and read his information card. "Yep, he's a beginner horse. His name's Grandpa."

"What makes you think I'm a beginner?" asked Chris.

"You told me that you've never ridden before."

"Oh. That's right. Let me guess, you're all advanced?" said Chris.

"I'm only intermediate," I said.

"But you two are advanced," he said pointing at Lance and Erica.

"Well, yea," said Erica, "but that's not the point here."

"Great! I'm riding with a group of advanced people, and I'm just a beginner!" said Chris.

"Don't worry. It's a wooded trail. We can't go too fast," I said.

"Oh. Well you guys will have to teach me."

"We will," said Erica.

Erica chose a horse named Blitzen, Lance's was named Gary, and mine was Bradshaw. We saddled our horses (actualy, Erica saddled Grandpa for Chris), and then we went into the ring to warm up. Erica helped Chris mount, and then we all got on our horses.

"Okay, Chris. To make the horse go, you kick him," Erica started. "To make him turn right, you pull the reings right. To make him go left, you pull the reings to the left. To make him stop, pull the reings back. Those are the basics. If we decide to trot, you kiss to the horse and kick him harder, but we probably won't trot. You think you got it?"

"I think so."

"Okay. Let's go on the trail," said Erica and turned her horse out of the ring and onto the trail. The trail went through the woods, and it was really beautiful. I was actually glad we were taking it at a walk so I could enjoy the beauty.

Chris wasn't doing that badly. He wasn't great, but he was getting the basics down pretty good. The main thing that was setting him back was his horse. Grandpa was a very approprait name. This was the slowest horse I had ever seen.

My horse was okay. Bradshaw walked at an average speed and was pretty obedient.

Lance and Erica were really good riders. They had horses that went pretty fast for a walk, and when we came to fields they did tricks and stuff like that.

After we had been riding nonstop for about 45 minutes, Lance's horse stopped. Lance looked down and then jumped off his horse. "Guys, come here!" he said, and Erica, Chris, and I dismounted and walked to where Lance was standing. We looked down to where Lance was pointing and saw the "dead" body of the riding instructor, Dianne.
