Chapter 15

"I came in the door, I said it before. I think I'm over you, but I'm really not sure."~LFO, "Summer Girls"

Christmas Eve...One Year Later...

Isaac sat alone at the counter in a small diner. He was supposed to go home for Christmas to be with his family, but a blizzard had come and all flights from Pittsburgh International Airport had been canceled. So Isaac was left with no one.

"Another coffee, Sir?" Jacinda asked coming up to him. Jacinda was working part time at the diner. Isaac and Jacinda had become good friends over the past year. She was his best friend at the college. She, like Isaac, had planned to go home for Christmas, but her flight was canceled. Having nothing else to do, she decided to earn a little extra cash by working that night.

Isaac laughed at her formal tone. "No thanks. I'll have some toast though. And a glass of orange juice."

"Going all out for Christmas dinner?" she asked joking.

"Yeah. That fifty cents for the toast is really going to set me back," Isaac replied. "Have I ever told you how funny you look in that waitress uniform?" Jacinda did look out of place in the pink and white dress and apron. Jacinda usually wore more flowy things like long skirts and gause~like shirts which were quite different from the waitress uniform.

"Every time you come in here," she said. "Hey, check out the paper while I get your toast." She handed him that day's newspaper.

Isaac took the paper and looked at the front page. "Insane Murderess Finally Locked Away," read the headline. The article sounded interesting, so Isaac started reading it to himself. He didn't realize it, but he had started to read it aloud under his breath.

"Yesterday, Michigan state police finally apprehended and arrested Reva Jenkins who has, in just over a year, murdered seventeen people including fourteen year old Fiona McIntosh, Bradley Joins..." Isaac couldn't believe what he was reading. Reva, Taylor's Reva, had killed Fiona? His Fiona? How the heck?

Isaac finished reading the article. Reva had been traveling ever since Taylor broke up with her, killing inocent people at almost every city she stayed in for any period of time. The police had been trailing her, but apperantly Reva was a master of disguise and kept slipping through the police's fingers. But they had finally caught her. Proclaiming her insane, she was thrown in an assylum for life.

"Well, I'll be darned," murmered Isaac.

"What's that?" said Jacinda, bringing his toast.

"They caught Fiona's murderer."

"That insane chick?"

"Yeah."

"Cool."

"Cool?"

"Well, yeah. Not that she's dead, but that she gets to go out with style, and the fact that they finally found out who did it."

"There's one thing that they don't mention in the article," said Isaac.

"What?"

"Reva used to date Taylor."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah."

"Hmmm. I thought Taylor stuck to good girls."

"Guess not."

Just then, a girl about Isaac and Jacinda's age entered the diner. She had long black hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. She sat at the counter a few seats down from Isaac.

"Well, work calls. Later," said Jacinda going over to the girl.

Isaac studdies the girl. She looked strangely familiar, but he couldn't quite place her face.

"Isaac," someone said. Isaac looked up and realized that it was the girl who had said it. Since she was facing him, he got a good look at her face, and he realized who it was.

"Ouinne! Oh my God! I haven't seen you for over a year!" Isaac squealed. He couldn't believe that he was being reunited with his one of his best friends from Tulsa.

"I know. This is so great. What a stroke of fate."

"Why are you in Pennsylvania?"

"I'm doing a hands~on journalism project for the Tribune Review. I seriously cannot believe I saw you here!"

"Me neither."

"I heard all about your girlfriend's death. I'm so sorry," she said.

"Don't be. There's nothing that you could have done to stop it."

"I know. It's just...Isaac, there's something that I need to tell you."

"What?"

"Do you remember that day at the airport when I was going to tell you something, but you had to get on the plane?"

"Yeah."

"Did you ever find out what I was goint to tell you?"

"No, why?"

"Well, I'm going to tell you now. Isaac, I've been in love with you for as long as I've known you. I've just been too afraid to tell you. But now I realize that I just need to let the world know it, and face whatever your knowing will bring."

Isaac let this sink in. He had never realize this about Quinne. He had always thought of her as a friend and nothing more.

But could she be something more? Isaac hadn't had any girlfriends since Fiona died. He had been too hooked on her.

But maybe it was time for him to move on. He couldn't live the rest of his life like this. And the more he thought about it, Quinne seemed like the perfect person to start a relationship with. She had always been there for him, and they had a good chemistry between them.

"Isaac?" Quinne asked.

"Yeah?"

"Why are you so quiet?"

"Just thinking. You're right, I think we'd be good together. Would you like to go out for Christmas dinner?"

"I'd love to," she said. They got up from the counter, and Isaac took her hand as they walked out of the diner. Isaac realized that he had done the right thing, and he could also feel Fiona smiling down on him from heaven..
