Chapter 8
"This is me. I'm reaching out to you, but there is no one here...Going over our conversation. It was only a conversation."~Ednaswap, "A Conversation"
The next day Isaac called Taylor from his dorm room.
"Hello?" answered Taylor.
"Hey, Tay. It's Ike."
"Hey, how you doin? Has anything exciting happened?"
"Well, Justin Timberlake from *NSYNC is my roomate."
"Jessica will be excited about that," said Taylor. Jessica had a huge crush on Justin.
"Not necessairly. He told me he's dating Britney Spears."
Taylor was silent on the other line.
"Oh, Tay, you know you never had a shot with her anyway."
"That's not the point, Ike," Taylor said with a sad tone in his voice.
"Tay, you already have two girlfriends, which brings me to something else."
"No, I didn't tell Reva yet. I can't Ike! I just can't! Look, there's no way either of them will ever find out about the other one, so why can't we just leave it at this?"
"Well, Tay, you can't do that because, well, you know how Katie and Fiona live in White Oak?"
"Yea."
"And you know how I'm going to college in McKeesport?"
"Yea. Ike, why are you asking all of these stupid questions?"
"Guess what town is right next to McKeepsort?"
"Oh God."
"Oh God is right. My first night in the town I ran into them."
"How the heck?"
"I couldn't stand to be around Justin for the whole night, so I started walking around and there was a Borders. I remembered that you told me that place was cool, so I went in. There was this girl on stage singing and playing guitar, and it turned out to be Fiona, but I didn't know it was Fiona yet and..."
"Ike, slow down. You lost me. So it was Fiona, you just didn't know it yet?"
"Right."
"Was she any good?"
"Yea! She was really good! She had never mentioned that she sang, did she?"
"I dunno. You're the one who spent all the time with her."
"Oh. That's right."
"What happened next?"
"Well, I was just looking around and I saw Katie. I went over to her and we were talking and she told me that the girl on the stage was Fiona, and I was really shocked. Then I met two of their other friends, Lindsay and Max, and they were telling me that Fiona hadn't had a boyfriend since we met and that she was still obsessed with me. So when she was done with her set, I went over and talked to her and now we're back together."
"Aww! How sweet!"
"What about your little problem, Tay?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," said Taylor.
"Oh, c'mon, Tay!" said Isaac. "You gotta break up with one of them."
"Why?" whined Taylor.
"You can't go through life with two girlfriends."
"The President did."
"Let's not go there. And what are you going to do if I slip and say something about Reva to Fiona or Katie or anyone?"
"Ike, you wouldn't!"
"I can't make any promises, Tay."
"Can't you be careful when you're around them?"
"No, Tay. I'm not covering for you! This has gone for too long."
"So what are you saying?"
"You gotta break up with one of them."
"But who?"
"Who do you like more?"
"I dunno. I guess Katie, but Reva will kill me if I break up with her!"
"I got an idea," said Isaac.
"This oughta be good."
"It is," started Isaac. "Mom said that you and Zac could come visit me sometime. Come like next week, and you can call Reva on the plane from your cell~phone and break up with her."
"That actually ain't a bad idea. Thanks, Ike. I'll ask Mom now," said Taylor. There was a two minute pause until he returned. "She said yes."
"Notice our mother isn't the least bit concerned about you and Zac being on a college campus without an adult."
"Why should she be worried? It's not like we'd try to go to any phrat parties or anything like that," Taylor said with a smirk in his voice.
"Speaking of that, I'm thinking about pledging to Alpha Beta Gamma."
"Why? You'll never make it."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because you're a dork."
"Oh, and like you would make it."
"Maybe I would."
"Maybe you'd make it in a sorority."
"Haha, Ike. Very funny. Good luck or whatever. I'll see you on Friday."
"Okay. Bye, Tay."
"Bye."
Isaac hung up the phone and turned around to see Justin watching him.
"Hey, I didn't even know you were awake yet," Isaac said.
"Yup. My mommy always encouraged me to be an early bird. You didn't tell me that you were pledging to Alpha Beta Gamma."
"Well, I might."
"I'm gonna pledge too. My monny would be so proud of me if I made it."
"I'm sure she would."
"Did I hear you say that your brothers were going to visit?"
"Yea. They'll be here on Firday."
"Maybe I should have my mommy come visit."
"Sure, why not?"
"Hey, where were you last night?"
"Oh, I went to Borders," Isaac started and tried to figure out whether or not to tell Justin about Fiona. He decided to tell him. "Guess who I saw there?"
"My picture on a magazing cover?"
"No," Isaac said and again wondered if he wanted to become friends with Justin.
"I'm just playin, man. C'mon, tell me who you saw."
"You remember that girl that I was telling you about?"
"Yup. You saw her again? That is so sweet! I knew you two were meant to be together. Tell me all about it."
Isaac told Justin the entire story.
"That's so sweet! I'll have to meet her sometime."
"Sure."
"This makes me miss Britney, I'm gonna call her."
Some things will never change.

One week later...
Taylor and Zac were sitting in the first class section of their flight to Pittsburgh. Zac had his headphones on, and the volume of the CD player that they were attached to was turned up to such a level that Taylor couls clearly recognize that he was listening to Fiona Apple. This, of course, reminded him of Fiona, which reminded him of Katie, which reminded him that the flight was almost over and he still hadn't called Reva. Sighing, he picked up his cell~phone and dialed Reva's number. After one ring she picked up.
"Hello?" she answered.
"Hey, Reva."
"Oh, hi, Taylor! I'm glad you called. Things are so boring around here without you."
This was going to be harder than Taylor thought. "Um, Reva, there's something that I have to tell you."
"What's that?"
"Um, I can't go out with you any more."
"Why not?"
"Well, see, I kinda have another girlfriend in Pittsburgh."
"You mean you've been cheating on me?"
"Well, yea."
"How do you know anyone from Pittsburgh?"
"I met her during the summer at the beach, and Ike ran into her in town last week."
"So you're going to see her on this trip?"
"Yea."
"Taylor! How could you do this to me?"
"Reva, let me explain!"
"There's nothing to explain, Taylor. You'll pay for this, I swear you will!"
