Blue Moon Rising by Simon Green
What I say (since I don't have the book cover or an amazon.com synopsis): Rupert is the second son to a king. He is sent on a quest that no one expected him to return from... he was sent to kill a dragon. He finds a dragon, but it is a better friend then any one back home. He even finds a princess to save that doesn't need saving by any means. Rupert decides to return home, but then Rupert, Julia, the Dragon, and a sarcastic unicorn set off on a journey of dangers even greater than the first.
This is by far my favorite book (or at least my favorite book that isnt' part of a long series). I can't say much else for it, except that it is the classic fairy tale, but with so much more to offer. Please, consider this book. You won't regret it. |
A Man of His Word Series. Book one: The Magic Casement by Dave Duncan
The thing on the back says: Princess Inos lived an idyllic life in her fathers' sleepy, backwater kingdom, and she was best friends with her childhood companion, the stableboy, Rap. But when a prophecy seemed to say Inos should be married, she was exiled to the Impire to learn to be a lady. She was far away when Rap's magical talents began to emerge, and it was he who told her of the fate awaiting them both.... I say: This, is, by far the BEST series I have ever read... some people may disagree... but not all that many... this has magic, adventure, humor, and great characters. Don't miss it.

The Enchanted Forest Chronicles. Book one: Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede
What some dude said: Cimorene is an iconoclastic princess bored with court life. Outraged by an arranged engagement to a dull prince and prevented from following her preferred pursuits of cooking and magic, she runs away to become the princess of a dragon. Wryly humorous, with an appealing, strong-minded heroine. What I say: This is a great series... granted, they are written for kids and young adults... but they are the type of books that bring out the kid in everyone. There was a time (I think I was 14), where I hated reading... I spent all my time in front of the TV. Then, one day, I picked up a book that my friend had read (Dealing with Dragons)... and it was wonderful. I read the whole series (four books) in three days... This was the series that inspired my love of reading... so, even if you are older than the target audience, you may still enjoy this wonderful series. |
