* Jay Gordon, frontman for Orgy, is
somewhat of a mystery, according to
interviewers. He likes to "keep things
veiled", as he once stated, and it has
been suggested that he shelters the band
as much as possible to keep that
mystery. As was said about him in the
May 1999 issue of Alternative Press, "
Mystery is important to Gordon.
While the other members speak more
readily about their personal lives,
Gordon is more guarded in his
responses".
Jay started to get into music when he
was around 12 years old, and by the time
he graduated, studied to become a sound
engineer. It was his time in studios,
co-producing acts like Coal Chamber,
that got him introduced to many
different music styles, and it was 80's
bands like Depeche Mode and New Order
and goth bands like Bauhaus and Sisters
of Mercy that got his creative juices
flowing. Although he is into industrial
bands like Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails
and Ministry, its those 80's new wave
and goth bands that are his first
love. His background as a sound engineer also
started one of his hobbies up; collecting
drum machines.
On his music, Jay says "I think the
general public is ready for new
dimensions in music, especially the
people in America... We don't want a
computer on stage. We're a rock band
with a singer, not a studio project."
