Halloween Customs in Canada

Halloween customs in Canada have followed the same pattern as Halloween customs in the United States. As in the U.S., when English, Irish and Scottish immigrants brought their Halloween customs with them to Canada, they replaced the turnip, beet, and potato which they used to create a Jack-O'-Lantern with the pumpkin, which was far easier to carve a demonic face into as well as hollow out so that a candle could be affixed inside it. The Halloween custom for children to do a "trick-or-treat" also became popular in Canada. As well, all the other American Halloween customs became popular in the Canadian Halloween version of Halloween customs: bobbing for apples, collecting money for UNICEF, holding Halloween dances, Halloween costume parties, Halloween community celebrations, storytelling about ghosts and witches, wearing all kinds of Halloween costumes and Halloween masks, many which have been created by hand for a unique presentation, and these Halloween costumes are often a trendy Halloween costume to go with the times. In the 21st century, a new Halloween custom has developed and this involves sending Halloween ecards via e-mail through the World Wide Web of the internet, and these Halloween e-cards are literally sent worldwide. As well, online videos of Halloween events can now be posted to several audio and video websites.
