An apple crisp is one of the many favorite desserts served at the conclusion of the Passover / Pesach Seder. An apple crisp recipe with pears adds an extra twist to traditional apple crisp recipes. Kids and adults alike will love the apple crisp with pears dessert created from the following apple crisp recipe.

Apple Pear Passover Crisp Recipe (Parve) (Preparation time: 30 minutes; Cooking time: 1 - 1 1/2 hours)

For the filling:

6 large peeled Granny Smith apples, cut in 1/4 inch slices
5 ripe peeled Bartlett pears, cut in 1/4 inch slices
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons matzo meal

For the topping:

1 1/2 cups matzo meal
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold margarine (or butter), chopped small

Instructions for the Apple Pear Passover Crisp recipe (Parve):

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius or Centigrade).
  2. Coat inside of 10-by-15-by-2 1/2-inch (25.40-centimeter-by-38.10-centimeter-by-6.35-centimeter) oval baking dish with margarine.

To make the filling:

  1. In large mixing bowl, toss apples and pears with lemon juice.
  2. Add cinnamon, ginger, light brown sugar, granulated sugar and matzo meal and mix until fruit is well coated.
  3. Pour the fruit into baking dish and gently spread.

To make the topping:

  1. In bowl of electric mixer fitted with paddle attachment, combine matzo meal, almond slices, dark brown sugar, granulated sugar, chopped margarine and cinnamon.
  2. On low speed, mix until margarine is pea-size and mixture is crumbly.
  3. Sprinkle evenly over fruit.
  4. Bake 1 - 1 1/4 hours, until fruit is soft and bubbly and topping is browned and crisp.
  5. Serve immediately or refrigerate and reheat at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius or Centigrade) for 20 to 30 minutes, until warm.
