Summary of JW Pepper's role in Live and Let Die

JW Pepper first appeared in the James Bond series as the Sherrif of the Louisiana State Police. He entered the scene when one of Mr. Big's mobsters was speeding in JW's territory. The sherrif took his authority and chased after the speeding fellon. When he pulls him over, he told the speeder to get out of the car and put out his hands so he could search him. The spot where the car was pulled over was at a part of the road that was kind of built up over a river...but it was not a bridge. While this was happening, Bond is approaching this crossover point and flies over the road and continues on the other side of the road. One of the guys chasing Bond didn't quite make it over the road and landed in the Sherrif's squad car. After the Sherrif hooks up with a couple of other cops in a different car, they want to chase Bond, not knowing that he is on their side. They continues to chase the boats along the side of the road. At the end of the boat chase, the sherrif finally got to confront Bond and tried to arrest him. The sherrif was pretty upset because Bond created some wild action in this small town like wrecking a wedding and blowing up an oil tanker. It was then that a fellow officer informed him that Mr. Bond was a secret agent from England. To this, JW replies "Secret agent! On who's side?"
