Chapter Two

Say You Love Me, Say You Like Me

The next day, Jamie, Mike, Davy and I decided we would go out to lunch.

“Man, I can’t believe you told her you were a lifeguard!” Mike said to Davy.

“I can’t believe you actually believed I was drowning!” I said to Jamie.

“What do you mean actually drowning?” Jamie protested, “I saw you!”

“It was just a big stunt,” I explained. “Mike knew that Davy wasn’t a lifeguard. We wanted to teach him a lesson.”

“I’d say you did! After seeing how hurt Jamie was, I don’t think I’ll ever lie to her again.” Davy said sheepishly.

“You better not!” Jamie joked, poking at Davy.

“So Jamie, don’t you think Mike’s wool hat is sexy?” I asked. Mike blushed.

“What? That silly green bonnet? Pasha!” Jamie kidded.

“Hey Davy, did you tell Jamie about the Monkees?” Mike asked.

“Monkeys? Where!?” Jamie was definitely confusled. “Somebody clue me in-fast!”

Mike and Davy went on to describe the TV show and told her how it was to air in September, and about their debut single, Last Train to Clarksville. I found out that they were to film a promotional video on the beach the next week.

“That’s so groovy!” Jamie exclaimed. “I’m sure you’re a wonderful singer,” Jamie cooed to Davy.

“Actually I make a terrible noise!” Davy laughed.

“Yeah, he’s right, he can’t carry a tune in a bucket!” Mike added.

Just to prove Mike wrong, Davy jumped up and started dancing on the table singing a song we would later grow to love, I Wanna be Free. He used his fork for a microphone. Jamie smiled from ear to ear. She would later mention again ad again ‘how well’ Davy sang that song.

In the mean time Mike and I played footsies underneath the table and the waiter brought the check.

“You-ho Jamie, sorry to interrupt your little concert here but we’ve got two friends who are probably very worried about us. We really should get back to them soon.”

Jamie was not so concerned, she was busy looking into Davy’s eyes. “I’m sure they’ve attracted some trim of their own.” She sighed as she and Davy held hands.

I sighed as well, “Huh, how about we bring Davy and Mike with us so they can meet them. This is a girl trip after all, we’re not being very considerate.” I suggested.

Mike and I and Davy and Jamie left the diner arm in arm, off to see what our friends had been up to.

As we approached our beach towels, we saw that Jamie was right. Two boys were with Jill and Shawna.

“Hey, isn’t that Peter and Micky?” Mike asked David.

“You guys know them?” I asked.

“Know them! Why, we’re costarring on the Monkees with them!” Davy answered.

“That is so weird!” Jamie announced. “Four friends meet and fall for four other friends.”

“I think its weird ... and wonderful!” I said.

We soon reached our destination. “Davy, Mike - long time no see...” That was Micky talking.

Jill introduced Jamie and I to Micky. “Jamie, Samantha, meet Micky Dolenz. Micky and I are going to have sex tonight.”

“What?” Micky asked, baffled. He obviously knew nothing about this.

Jill giggled. “I could tell it in your eyes,” she said sexily. “Besides, it says it right here.” She turned her hand over and exposed her palm. “Yep!” It read, ‘sex to be mine.’

“Well, in that case, I’m all yours!” Micky said.

Then Shawna introduced us to Peter. “Girls, this is Peter Tork.” We shook hands. “He’s very smart you know, he’s going to be an oral surgeon."

Mike and Davy found this very amusing. I myself was very happy and wouldn’t trade these special moments for the world. I felt Mike’s arm tighten around my waist. Everything was so perfect.

It was such a coincidence! We were all staying in the same motel. They were on the 2nd floor while we were on the third. Since we all got along so well together, the eight of us decided to hang out a lot.

Mike and I sat on the bed in his room before supper that evening. We were both perfectly content just holding hands and staring deep into each others eyes.

“Samantha,” Mike whispered. “Hmm?” I murmured. “Samantha, I think I just might be falling for you.”

“Oh, Mike, I was just thinking the same thing. You make me very happy. I’m so glad I met you.” Mike and I were passionately kissing when Mike’s roommate, Davy, walked in without even knocking. Jamie was with him.

“Mike!” Davy exclaimed, pretending to be shocked. “Whoa Mike, you should really wait till dark for that!”

“We weren’t doing nothing of the sort. I was just thanking him for saving my life.” I explained.

“Davy does have a point,” Jamie stated. “Why exactly are you under the covers?” She asked, raising her eyebrows suggestively.

“Huh!” I sighed, “We were cold!” I said, “Is that a sin?”

“Yeah, go away and leave us alone!” Said Mike, “We were just enjoying a rare private moment.”

“Hey, this is my room too!” Davy protested. “Can I at least get my maracas? I want to play them for Jamie. She wanted to hear the 'worlds best maraca player.'”

“Oh, who’s that?” I joked, “Micky?”

“No!” Davy said, annoyed. “Not Mickey Mouse, me!” After he and Jamie left, Mike and I resumed our making out until dinner.

That night we went out to eat at a fancy steak place. The meal for eight people was very pricey, but Mike paid the bill because he was such a nice guy.

After we ate we went to the beach for a midnight swim. Mike loved my tie-died suit. Unlike Jill, my boobs stay in my bathing suit. Poor Jill, she’s just so easy to pick on, she’ll never live down the time when her boob popped out of her bikini at a public beach either.

Peter was not a very good swimmer at all. He didn’t want anyone to know so he pretended he knew how. He was embarrassed and didn’t want anyone to think he was queer. He was shy enough as it was. Everyone waded out far though, so he did too. All of the sudden a big wave came up and knocked us all down. Everyone else soon emerged - but not Peter. Shawna knew what to do. Unlike Davy-she was a real and trained lifeguard. She went under several times before she found him and drug him to shore. After she was done Peter came up sputtering.

“Shawna!” He exclaimed. “You saved my life!”

“Yes, I know,” Shawna said flirtatiously. She smiled.

“Shawna is the resident hero!” I exclaimed.

“Oh, I thought that was me!” Davy joked.

Peter was still shaken up a bit so he and Shawna decided they would go back to the motel and watch old movies.

The rest of us stuck around for a little while, but it was late so we soon each went our separate ways.

“Hey, Jill, let’s go back to my place for a little of that sex you were talking about!” Micky half-joked. Jill agreed with a giggle.

Davy and Jamie took a moonlit walk down the beach staring deep into each other’s eyes.

Mike was hungry, so we decided it would be romantic if we flew to Houston and went to his favorite burger place. He introduced me to his friends and family when we got there.

“This is the girl of my dreams.” He said. “I just met her, but I know already she’s the one.” One of his buddies dared him to kiss me. So he did long and hard. The crowd whistled and clapped. I was in heaven. I never wanted to leave his arms again.

After eating a great hamburger, Mike flew us home.

“Goodbye, Samantha.” Mike said, and then kissed me in front of my hotel room door.

“Bye Mike.” I answered. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
