Where do Christian's loyalties lie?
By Brian Lutz
"Blood is thicker than water…"
We've all heard this expression a million times, and for most of us, it rings true. Family ties nearly always bind tighter than those developed through friendship, especially in times of crisis. However, sometimes blood ties aren't as strong as they should be…
Currently, the Brood is going through a huge upheaval, and blood ties will play a major role in the future for the gothic trio. For those of you that have been sleeping under a rock, the once unified Brood has seemingly fractured, with Gangrel and Edge now battling one another in mortal combat. The reason for the split has never been fully explained, but most speculate that the rift has come about due to Edge's increasing popularity with the Federation's fans.
Since this rift has developed, the conflict between Edge and Gangrel has exploded into an all-out war. These two enigmatic superstars have done everything in their power to destroy one another, best illustrated by Gangrel's actions on RAW, where he actually threw Edge down into a fiery pit. Although this feud is still relatively new, it's already become one of the most intense in the entire Federation.
Of course, the deciding factor in this conflict will, in all likelihood, wind up being Christian. The third member of The Brood has been characteristically silent since Gangrel and Edge split up, and the speculation has begun as to which side he will take. Obviously, both superstars would love to have Christian by their respective side, but so far, we really don't know if he will choose to go with his brother or with Gangrel.
Personally, I tend to think that Christian will eventually align himself with his brother, Edge. Gangrel has been growing more and more withdrawn of late, and I'm guessing that Christian probably realizes that if fanged one is willing to turn on Edge, then he'd also likely turn on Edge's sibling. I may be wrong (though it would be the first time), seeing as Christian has sided with Gangrel in the past… but I definitely believe that Christian will stick with his family this time around.
Either way, it looks as if the rift within the Brood may well signal the final split for this dark organization. However, the fate of the gothic trio will soon be decided, and ironically, it will be the quietest member of the group that will the greatest say in the end.
