NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 19, 1999 |
Appointees to Fayette County’s new advisory board on election issues have arranged a public meeting with the president of a national election-watch organization. The session will be held Wednesday, July 21 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Hall of Freedom in Uniontown.
Deborah Phillips of the Voting Integrity Project (VIP) will make a presentation to the group and other interested citizens on how to initiate poll watch training in the county. Phillips is traveling throughout the region and offered the informal meeting when contacted about information the committee sought.
Phillips stressed the meeting is informational, but a follow-up meeting could be planned for individuals "who might comprise a VIP-Fayette County, with the goal of implementing a poll watching program in the county under VIP auspices."
County commissioners Harry Albert, Sean Cavanagh, and Vincent Vicites appointed three members each to the local unofficial advisory panel in March. Appointees are: Art Bakewell, Don Burik, Paul Cassidy, Sondra Cesarino, Curtis DeShong, Vicki Leonelli, Peter Malik, Jerry Mazza, and Delinda Young.
Continuing to organize, the advisory group is seeking information on several election topics and will issue a press release on its activities in the near future.
Contact with Delinda Young, Discussions Coordinator for Hall of Freedom events, can be made through the Internet by E-mail: frontroom@hotmail.com
