Jack's 1971 Dodge D-100 Pick-Up

Last Updated 10/27/2012

Here is our 1971 Dodge 100 Pick-Up. Purchased October 2007. It was formerly a North Carolina DOT truck. Here it still wears it's original Lemon Twist Yellow paint and Beige painted interior. The odometor reads 79,000 miles and it could be true. The body has almost no rust and the only thing missing is the wood in the bed. It has a 318 that has a 1970 date code cast on the side of the block. I have removed the headers and had them ceramic coated cool chrome. The headers were pretty rusty. I also put a new starter on while I was at it. The old starter wanted to hang up all the time. As you can see in the pictures, it has an edelbrock intake and carburator. It did not run real well, Did some adjustments to the carb and added electronic ignition. It ran good enough to get on the road and sort out other issues.

These pictures are "BEFORE" shots! Scroll down for pictures of the restoration in progress.

Now starts the restoration...Made a bed floor from diamond plate, Rebuilt the bed, welded the stress cracks in the rear fenders, sanded and painted the bed with silver Rust Encapsulator. Started some body work on the cab, fixed the little issues with the floors and installed Dynamat. New tires, Seats from a 1999 Dodge Caravan, Removed the dash and the heater and restored both. I drove the truck for several months. I did not like the way the 318 powered the truck. I got a 1968 Chrysler New Yorker parts car with a decent 440 engine. After doing a compression check, I pulled the 440 and replaced the timing chain as well as all the gaskets and rear main seal. Painted and detailed it up and re-mated it with the freshly rebuilt 727 transmission. I now have the 440 motor/727 tranny installed and running good. The old 318 is sold and gone. Did all the body work, block sanded, primed with epoxy primer, block sanded with 400 paper, then painted it 1970 Dodge "Y2" Sunfire Yellow. It is now all assembled, and just need to work out some little issues here and there.

Here is a little list of parts used....Seats from 1999 Dodge Caravan, center console from 1985 Dodge Ramcharger, outside mirrors 1972 Chevy Truck reproduction, antenna 1973-79 Ford Truck reproduction. Tailgate and chains from Mar-K truck parts reproduction. Hood letters from 2004 Dodge Truck tailgate. Seat and shoulder belts from 1985 Dodge Ramcharger. Carpet from AAC, and glove box from REM.

Here are some photos taken in a new development near home. Enjoy!!!!

I am dedicating the restoration of this truck to the memory of my brother.
