Jack's 1970 Plymouth Fury

The first few pictures are before I started restoration. The car is under construction in all of the pictures on the lower part of this page.

This is a 1970 Plymouth Fury III convertible that I started to transform into a Sport Fury. Chrysler did not include the convertible to the Sport Fury line up in 1970, so I decided to make my own. I always liked the 70 Sport Fury because of the wraparound bumpers and hideaway headlights. When I found this Fury III with a truckload of spare parts from a Sport Fury, I could not resist. It was near Cleveland OH and the pictures on the internet looked good enough to go look at. We took off for Ohio Friday after work, met the guy in the Fury at a Wendy's in Racine, OH. at 10am Saturday. The 383 4 bbl which really was a 1974 400 engine sounded good, the body was full of bondo in the rear quarter panels and the right front fender was hit once and filled with bondo. The floors were solid and looked like I could drive it home. It's a good thing that it made it home because I forgot to even take any tools along. The only problems I had was a little overheating when stopped in traffic at the toll gates on the turnpike. The water pump leaked a little and the timing was advanced too far causing too much pre-ignition. That Monday I went to PennDot for classic tags and by the next Saturday I had it inspected. I replaced the fuel pump and the water pump, gave it a complete tune up, and put the Carter AFB carburator on from my Imperial. I put an Edelbrock AFB clone on the Imperial. In the following weeks I had a new top with a glass rear window installed. Then pulled out the front seat and carpet. Put in new carpet while the seat had a few panels replaced. I also bought a Grant Steering Wheel, the one that looks like the Mopar Tuff Wheel from 70's "B" Body cars. I also just replaced the lower ball joints with Mopar new old stock ones. these cost me $300.00. These were real hard to find. I love to drive this car, and it really won't take much to make it a great car. Thanks to the many people who has helped me get this car as far as it is.
