Credits
For the campaign of 2040: Year of the Steel Monkey, credits are used in the place of dollars, yen, pasos, rubles, ect. In the year 2023, there was another bottoming out of the World Stock Market puting the world into a wide spread era of depression. Mass rioting broke out in several numerous cities round the globe. From major cities such as New York, USA to Tokyo, Japan; Moscow, Russia; London, England and even smaller cities and towns never heard of before. United Nation Leaders met to solve the matters of this wide spread civil unrest while local milita and police forces sought to restore a semblance of rational and order by enforcing a state of martial law and curfews. In many places this worked while in others it only incited greater, increased levels of violence.
After weeks of debate, seeing that old systems of monetary values were no longer valid, the use of the Universal Credits. An effort that would bring the world closer together working in peace. Or so is hoped. Thus beginning the dawn of Man's Golden Age as men ventured into new areas of medical sciences and technologies.
Credits are kept track of and transfered via electronic means, through the use of nano technology. Credit Cards look similiar to the credit cards of today, only using nano technology to record transactions for between a two or three second delay to process the exchanging of money. As magnetics are too easy to fool, nanotechnology tends to be more fool proof when transfering credits from one account to another or between cards. Similiarly, this also allows the government to monitor the exchanging of credits with businesses and individuals. Thus eliminating the use of ATM/Debit cards and checkbooks along with hard currency.
UC Numbers:
A person's UC Card number is not only a form of monetary exchange, it is also their form of identification, acting as both the account and I.D. number. At the same time, the UC number also acts as a passport when travelling between countries. A person is identified through their UC number with a combination of both thumb print and DNA markers, usually a blood sample.
Converting to the Credit System in Steel Monkey:
This is fairly easy, kept for simplicity's sake. One Credit equals one American Dollar. Players rolling up characters for Steel Monkey, merely roll up the same amount as it would be dollar amounts and then turn that number to Credits. I.E.: $500 dollars would equal 500 Credits.
