Eight-month's later.
"OK OK I understand got it I'll be there as soon as the plane land's it'll take at least five six hour's before we reach Orlando. OK OK Kevin don't worry gee's I'm not a child I'll be there OK c-ya then bye Kev" Nick Carter exclaimed then hung up his cell phone before boarding the small aircraft.
He was excepted back in Orlando in a few hours for an emergency meeting that their management called. It was early to early the sun hadn't even rose for the west side of the US yet, and he was excepted to be on an airplane.
Shaking his head while thinking to himself 'Man why can't they just let Rok take note's for me I haven't seen my family in only God knows how long. And to top it all off it's to dam early in the morning hell the chickens are up yet. I can't believe this".
Sent he was the only one out of the five out west on vacation there management decided to have him fly back on a company plane. For the next flight wasn't until 12 noon he would then be late to the meeting if he had took a commercial airline. Yet, Nick was excepted to be back in Orlando by noon, which put it very early in the morning. (And we all know Nick hates to get up lol). So you could say he wasn't quit himself the pilot and co-pilot were already getting thing's under way so it wouldn't be long till take off. Once it did and they were at a comfortable altitude Nick pulled out his headphones and CD played he sat back to relax and let the music take him over. Nick watched as the cloud's seemed to get darker as they flew he started to get worried but figured if there was something wrong the pilot would know what to do. Then the plane started to shake braking Nick out of this concentration he sat strait up in his seat wondering just what the hell was going on. Then the pilot came on over the income and announced that they had to land in Boulder cause if they didn't the plane would crash which it was already doing. As the plane went down Nick's life pasted before his eyes then he pasted out for the lack of oxygen to his brain.
10 miles away
Kayla was out with her horse Jenny taking in the new fallen snow and all the beautiful things that were around her. In the last eight month she had grown to love it here in the mountain's even thought she was more of a beach kind of girl. As Kayla was looking up she saw a flash in the sky she knew there was a storm approaching. What caught he eye was that a plane was coming down turning her sled around and heading in that direction. At the moment she arrived the air craft had crashed down nose first into the new fallen snow as she jumped out she witnessed the snow start to fall again and knew she had to hurry if there was anyone alive to get them out in time. Not having her cell phone with her was a bad idea she thought as she slowly and carefully looked around the craft for any sign's of life. Once seeing that the door was ajar she careful yet skillful pulled the door back.
"Thank God for my three year as an EMT" Kayla exclaimed out loud as she entered the plane slowly not to rock it too much.
She saw a young man sitting face downward he looked hurt but not badly. She walked closer to the front of the plane peeking though to look at the pilot noting that there was glass everywhere. She checked for a pulse finding none she moved back to the young man at the back.
Nick's eyes fluttered open and tried to forces he saw a young woman coming towards him. He didn't know who she was or what had happened or even his own name all he did know was that he hurt all over but mostly his head. The blackness took over again and he slumped over once more.
Kayla came closer to Nick and noticed that his eyes had opened but closer just as quickly. Looking him over she knew it was possible to move him without hurting him more she ever so slowly lifted him up and half carried half dragging him to her sled and Jenny. Once he was safely in the sled she went back for some of his thing's grabbing all she could which was really all he had. He's backpack and one suitcase jumping in she whistled at Jenny to go which she did on command. Only one thing the CO-pilot had been in the bathroom he was hurt but not badly. The ride back to Kayla's cabin was just as expected quit with only the sound of the leaves rustling, bird's flying around, and the snow crunching underneath the sled. Once at her cabin Kayla jumped down and proceeded to get Nick out walking slowly so as not to hurt him more. Kicking the door she walked though and slowly walked Nick over to the guestroom to lay him down while she went and got his things. Once everything was settled in and Nick was in bed Kayla decided to make some tea to calm down with. As she waited for the water to finish boiling she heard a noise from the guestroom fearing there was something wrong she quickly turned off the stove and walked to the room. Carefully looking she took note that the window had been broke though by a tree branch. She knew that this room was not doing any good for the young man so once again she picked him and took him to her room to rest. Then went back and cover the window so the snow and cold stayed out she knew she would have to call a repairman for that window soon. However, she would think about that later.
'God I hope he's going to be alright just look at him his face looks so sweet oh dam Kate stop that you know you can't do that. Just leave him alone' Kayla exclaimed to herself as she walked back into her room to check on Nick.
Yet, there was something not right she saw Nick shiver and knew he had to be cold especial with what little clothing he had on. So pushing all thought's aside she took off his clothes and went to get some warm water for his cut's to clean them up. Once that was done she slowly slipped into bed and cuddled up beside him to keep him warm. Ten minutes at best past and Kate had fell asleep quietly the two slept nether one knowing the other yet Kate had a feeling that this wasn't going to be no ordinary man. She sensed something about him that scared her yet, warmed her all at the same time. A few hour's later Kate awoke from the nap and noticed and Nick hadn't yet he had quit shivering and shaking. Therefore, she got up and went to make her that cup of tea once more satisfied that it was at the right temperature she poured her a cup and as down at her kitchen table over looking the beautiful Rocky Mountains' as the sunset over the day. Over the next few day's Kate was alone Nick hadn't woke up and she fear there saw something really wrong. So about a week after the crash she was about to take him the hospital when he had awoke. She was in the kitchen getting something's together for the drive when she felt a presence in the room. Turning slowly her breath caught in her throat she was starring into the most beautiful set of bright blue eyes she had ever seen.
"Who are you and were am I" Nick asked as he wavered slightly.
Kate was at his side to sit him down in the nears chair to him. Once seated she stated "You're plane had crashed about a week ago I found you there and brought you here to my cabin to get well. You're name by what I found in you wallet is Nickolas Gene Carter you live in Tampa, Florida".
"Oh so were is here" Nick asked trying to remember who he is.
"Boulder, Colorado I live about twenty miles outside of the city and by the way my names is Kate" she explained as she tried to look away from Nick.
"So did I mean do I know you" Nick asked.
"No you don't but all I can tell you is that well you're famous in a group called the Backstreet boys. I'm sure your memory will return to you soon Mr. Carter the only question is do you want to go to the hospital" Kate exclaimed.
"NO no I rather stay here I have the funny feeling that I would get better care. And please don't call me Mr. Carter it sound so formal" Nick replied taking Kate's hand in his.
"All right then and you can call me Kate the good thing about it is that I have two weeks off from work still so I can help you regain you memory" Kate exclaimed as she got up but stopped when she felt a hand on her's.
"Wait hmm does anyone else live here beside you" Nick questioned cautiously.
"No I live alone so are you hungry and could make you something to eat if you want" Kate responded moving her hand away.
"Yea that would be nice thanks" Nick replied getting up from the table.
Kate went to work on lunch as Nick walked around the house looking at pictures and other things. Afterward he stopped in the doorframe of the kitchen to watch Kate cook.
Meanwhile twenty miles away search teams were looking around for Nick coming up empty handed everywhere. The lead man was getting tried of looking it was getting later to begin with so he order the search to start winding down. Yet, there were people out there worried and scared for his safety.
"Have you found him yet" Kevin asked the leader of the search once thing's started winding down.
"No sir. I'm afraid not I'm sorry the search has to close down for today it's getting to cold and the night is soon to take over" the gentleman explained to Kevin as he walked past.
'Man what are we supposed to do now God Nick were are you buddy we need you' Kevin exclaimed to himself as he walked away.
"So what do you do for a living I mean you seem to know a lot about me and I don't know anything about you. So I'm going to ask question's" Nick asked as he walked in the kitchen and sat down at the table.
"That's fine with me go right ahead and right now I work as a masseur in Boulder but my real passion is writing that's what I really like to do" Kate responded setting a plate of pasta with spaghetti sauce in front of Nick.
"Oh that sound cool what kind of thing's do you write" Nick questioned taking a bit.
"Mostly Science fiction and fantasy oh and by the way I managed to grab some of you're thing's from the plane you might want to take a look at them. To see if anything jogs you're memory I read somewhere that it might help" Kate exclaimed.
"Yea you might be right I will after lunch. So hmm do you have anyone special in you're life" Nick responded.
"No not at the moment and really not for a while now my life is kind of messed up right now" Kate replied looking around.
"Oh can I ask why that is" Nick asked trying to catch Kate's eyes.
"Well I've had to move around a lot and its tuff to keep a long distance relationship going. In addition, to that I'm not really that sociable" Kate answered.
"Oh but you are to me I mean you seem like a very nice person" Nick commented.
"Thanks Nickolas but unfortunately you wouldn't understand my life it hasn't been all that nice like you're" Kate responded carefully.
"How would you know how my life as been I mean we don't even know each other right" Nick questioned.
"You're right we don't know each other but I've seen how the lady's flock around you when you and the rest of the Backstreet boys were in concert. I mean not to be rude but you're life couldn't have been that bad" Kate exclaimed looking Nick in the eye.
"Well unfortunately I don't really remember so I'd have to get back too you on that one" Nick stated.
"Yea so hmm what would you like to do today I mean there's really not much to do sense the sun is going down. It start's to get cold here at that time," Kate asked picking up her plate.
"Well is it at least safe to go outside in the back I think I might have a jacket with me" Nick responded giving Kate a puppy look.
"Sure and if you don't have a jacket I think I have one that might fit you. So are you done" Kate answered standing next to Nick.
"Hmm oh yea I'm finished thank for lunch Kate" Nick replied giving Kate the plate.
"You're welcome so go take a look at some of you're thing's while I do the dishes then we can go outside" Kate exclaimed as she turned to go to the sink.
"Alright be back soon" Nick returned as he left.
Not ten minutes later Kate was finished with the dishes she walked into the guestroom were Nick was staying while drying her hands off.
"So did you find any thing that helped or not" Kate asked seeing Nick jump and hit his hand on the nightstand.
"Gee's girl you could've let a person know you were behind him ya know. I think you could've gave me a heart attack" Nick exclaimed trying to get up while rubbing his hand.
"Sorry I didn't mean to are you OK though," Kate asked worried.
"Yea I just hit my hand I'll be fine" Nick retorted as he watched Kate come over to him.
"Poor baby you want me to kiss it and make it all better"? Kate exclaimed while giving Nick a puppy dog look. Which she could pull off for she possessed deep brown eyes.
"Yea would ya" Nick replied starting deeply into her eyes.
"Well then OK tell me were it hurt's" Kate exclaimed with a giggle.
"My hand it hurt's really bad" Nick answered in a baby voice.
'Well I know one thing he still has his sense of humor and not to mention his charm still in tacked' Kate thought to herself as she strolled over to Nick.
She sat down next to Nick on the floor taking his hand in her's she felt how soft it was. Gently she raised his hand to her lips and softly kissed it sending shivers up his spine. He had the urge to kiss her very passionately but fought it for he didn't know how she would respond.
"Now is that better" Kate asked releasing his hand.
"Yea it does thanks so are you ready to go yet" Nick replied looking away as they both got up.
"Yup I just have to get my coat then we can go" Kate answered.
Two minutes later they were ready to go walking out into the cold day air hit them both very soundly. Kate looked around and started to walk over to the stable's to check on both Jenny and Lighting.
"Hey Kate were are you going" Nick called after her trying to catch up.
"To check on my horse's you want to come" Kate replied over her shoulder.
"Sure why not" Nick returned as he followed Kate to the stable's.
Once at the door Nick stopped suddenly and grabbed his head. When Kate didn't feel Nick behind her she knew something was wrong turning on her heels she walked back over to him watching him carefully knowing that most likely he was having a flashback.
"Nick you OK what did you see" Kate asked afterward.
"Yea I'm OK I saw I think it was my family a boy and girl both the same age kind of look a like. Then a woman with blonde hair and a man with the same color hair two other girls' as well they were all saying goodbye to me I think it was the day of the crash. Kate I know what I'm fixing to ask is something I'm sure you'll say no to but could we one day soon go see the crash site it might help me out" Nick explained looking at Kate.
"Sure we can Nick when ever you're ready we'll go I promise you let me know and it's good that you are remembering thing's so quickly" Kate exclaimed as she walked over to Jenny.
"How do you know so much about this kind of thing?" Nick asked as he came up beside her.
"Well I studied medicine and both my mother and father were doctor's so I learned a lot from them" Kate answered as she began to brush Jenny down.
"Oh were are they now if you don't mind me asking" Nick questioned.
"Well they're dead both of them unfortunately it was all a mix's up and they were in the wrong place at the wrong time is all" Kate replied not looking at him for fear he would see the pain and angry in her eyes.
"Oh I'm sorry I should've asked I'm sorry Kate" Nick retorted.
"No it's OK Nick and yes it's a very touchy subject but like my Mom always said it's better to talk about it then to keep it bottled up" Kate stated as she turned to Nick.
"Yea you're right so humm you're parents were both doctor I guess they were gone a lot then hu" Nick asked as he watched her brush Jenny down.
His mind keep coming up with all these image but they were not any memory that he would know. More like fantasy's about the thing's he would love to do with Kate. Nick didn't know why but he was starting to be more drawn to her with every second that pasted by and for some reason or another he wanted to one day act on it.
"No not really both of them tried there hardest to be there for me and they did a great job of it. A lot of my friend's were surprised that there weren't mad at me when I decided to choose to be a writer then a doctor. Yet, I like both that's why I was an EMT for a little while before moving here" Kate replied.
Ten minutes late after Jenny was brushed down and Kate had started on Lighting Nick received another flashback except this one accompanies a headache.
"Owe man my head hurt's now" Nick complained trying to get up but was slightly dizzy.
"Here stay seated relax for a few minutes let the image's settle now tell me what you saw," Kate inquired as she sat next to Nick.
"Well I see me setting a top of a horse and four other men around me. The one beside me as brownish blonde hair he's a guess about 5'8 he's wearing a ski cap and we're laughing about something he said. The one to left of me has brownish black hair it's in a ponytail a little shorter then the other he's dressed warmly he kind of look's like he freezing. There's one ahead of me tall black hair covered with a blue baseball cap all I can see is a brown leather jacket. The last guy looks to be wearing sunglasses he's freezing as well has red tipped brown hair" Nick replied.
"That's good Nick those guy's you just described were the rest of the Backstreet boys and you're best friend's. The first was Brian Litterll he's you're best friend next was Howie Dorough, Kevin Richardson, and last was AJ McLean" Kate explained seeing in Nick's eyes that he was getting it and remembering more and more.
"So what next I mean can we still go for that walk" Nick asked as he grabbed Kate's cold hand's "Woo you're hand are so cold wait that reminds me of something thing my Mom once told me a long time ago. I think it was cold hand warm heart I'm I right" Nick questioned with bright eyes.
"Yea that's right Nick and yea we can go for that walk it's not to dark out yet" Kate replied as she stood up pulling her hands away from Nick's and sticking them into her jacket pocket's.
"So what about you I mean you get to hear some of my life story's and I know nothing about you" Nick questioned as they walked out of the stables.
"Well what do you want to know I'm an open book just ask" Kate answered knowing what she was doing violated every code that the FBI, KC, Celeste, Krissy and Corrine had told her about. Yet, at the same time she knew this was a man who need help and she was going to give it to him no matter what the cost even if it meant her life.
"Mr. Richardson can we have a comment on the search for Nick Carter. How's it going" a middle aged reporter who name tag showed his name to be Jay Cobin from the New York times asked as Kevin entered his hotel.
"It's coming along fine there isn't any sign of him yet but the leader of the rescue party has hope as do I and the rest of the guy's" Kevin answered trying to walk past the reporter.
"We've heard that all of this mess is nothing but a ploy to get people to buy you new album coming out in November. Is there any true to that Mr. Richardson cause it kind of looks that way to a lot of people" Jay asked.
Which happens to be a very bad thing in deeded to do if Kevin had been angry now it looked like he was ferocious with this man in front of him.
"Excuse me Mr. Cobin but that last remark was very uncalled for and I gladly would care if you retract it" Kevin, exclaimed slowly walking back to the man.
"There is no way I'm going to do that Sir. cause our reader deserve the truth about this fabrication of the true" Jay stated.
"There is no F$$K fabrication of the true here MR. Cobin the only false thing I know is you standing before me. Asking this stupid question if you don't believe me go out to the crash site see the damage that was done. Then go talk to the widow of the pilot for that plane and come back to me when you have better question's to ask. Cause we all would like to know what happened" Kevin stated obviously upset.
"So what you're telling me is that this isn't a fabrication in no way well I have to tell you that I don't believe that one cause I've seen this kind of thing before. So now tell me the truth" Jay pressed more.
"Listen you waste of air that we all breath that is the true my best friend my brother is out there he maybe dead or dying and you have the nerve to ask me this. Didn't your mother raise you right my God what has this country come to don't you have any decency to know when you are not wanted. His family and all the fan's around the world are not only in shock but heart broken this is and never well be some ploy to get record sell that is down right disgusting to do and farther more you have no decency in your body at all. Now if you would PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE and leave everyone around me alone I wont pound you're face in" and with that little rant out of the way Kevin stomped off to the elevator and to his room.
"So before you moved here where did you live," Nick asked as he and Kate walked down a small path.
"In the city of course I loved it there it wasn't very far from the beach and everyone you met was always friendly" Kate answered.
"Oh alright so uhmm beside taking care of people what else do you like to do" Nick questioned as they came to a stop at the edge of a cliff over looking a river.
"Man this s beautiful I just wish sometimes I could jump in and float away forever" Kate commented.
"Why and you didn't answer my question" Nick exclaimed looking at Kate worried.
"Cause my life has been hell and sometimes I fell like dying. And to answer you're question I like to write, dance, play basketball, swim, and help people" Kate answered not even looking at Nick.
"Oh" was all Nick said as they began to walk again this time towards home.
Over the next few days Kate and Nick grew attached to each other the more time Kate spent with Nick the more she found herself falling in love with him. Two-week's had past and Kate was back at work taking care of business then going home to take care of Nick.
"So Kayla how was you're vacation from all of this did you go anywhere" A tall brunette asked her green eyes sparkle with wonder.
"Nope I stayed home tried to finish up my novel and relaxed mostly how was thing's around here Amy" Kayla replied as she put her thing's up in her locker.
"Fine but most of the regular's didn't come in cause' you weren't here but all in all it was fine" Amy retorted.
"That good well if I want to make any money I've got to work c-ya later" Kayla stated then left to start on work.
"The search still coming up with nothing" AJ asked as he walked into the conference room of the hotel they were staying at.
"Yea nothing I just can figure out for the life of me were the hell he could be" Brian replied as he sat down.
"I know how you feel Rok this is slowly killing us all I just don't understand why this had to happen now of all time's. Everything was going to well and now this" Howie stated as he sat down on the other side of Brian.
"Yea thing's were going great the new album was coming alone great we had time to ourselves the fans were supporting us not to say there not. It's just that it seem thing's have change God I miss Nick" Brian exclaimed more to himself then anyone else.
"This has to be the tufts time we've had of course that's not counting everything with the new management and all Nick was here then he's suppose to be here now" Howie stated.
Three looked up as Kevin entered the room looking very tried and worn out. He looked like he hadn't slept in days and the black circles around his eyes didn't help much. Grabbing a chair next to Howie he slumped down in it and rested his head on the back. Everyone but Kevin looked at the empty chair next to Brian and there heart sank everyone missed Nick more then word's could say. It was tuff on all of them especial Brian. But then there was Nick's family and all the fan's trying to all put up a brave front for Nick return. Many feared that he would never come back and it put a black cloud around everyone not just the people in the room.
"Tuff nite Cuz" Brian asked.
"Yea management called they said we have to be back in Orlando at twelve tomorrow I manage to talk them into moving the meeting here to Boulder" Kevin replied not even looking up.
"So what did they say" AJ asked.
"It's going to be handled Jason will be coming here tonight" Kevin answered.
"Oh joy I wonder what it is going to be this time" Brian exclaimed throwing his hands up in the air.
Just then the door's opened and the leader of the search for Nick walked in.
"I'm sorry to have bragged you all here this afternoon but before it become official I just wanted to all to know" the grayed hair man exclaimed starting the small meeting off.
"What do you mean Mike let us know what" Howie asked with a look of confusion and worry.
"Well with the fresh snow falling and the cold weather setting in I'm afraid that the search for Mr. Carter will have to be put on hold until spring when ever that will happen" Mike explained to the group of opened jagged men.
"What why I mean isn't there something we could do keep searching we can't loss him he's our brother Mike" Brian exclaimed shocked.
"I'm sorry Brian there isn't anything we can do with more people coming here for winter vacation and all we can't possible keep the staff out longer" Mike answered lowering his eyes.
"So what we're just suppose to give up on him and let him dead" AJ asked wide eye.
"No I will keep my staff working on it but just not as hard I'm sorry guy's there will be a press conference in about ten minutes to announce this again I'm very sorry. And hey maybe with God's help he'll walk on into Boulder by himself and be fine" Mike stated then left to start the conference.
Everyone stated to talk at once out raged by this and everything else that has been going on the last three weeks. Kevin just sat there staring into space he blamed himself for this no one knew he keep it all hidden deep inside Kristen was a help but he missed Nick so much.
'I can't loss you to Nick I just can't we will find you I promise you that one' Kevin stated to him self as he watch what was going on around him.
