She quickly slipped her key into the ignition and pulled out of the parking lot by A.J.'s apartment. She turned right and continued on down the roads after a few more turns, she reached Kevin's house. She slowed to a stop, and turned off the car. Before she got out, she silently prayed that she did the right thing. Beth opened the door, gathered a few of her things and quickly walked over to knock on his door. As she waited, she gently set her things on the porch. Finally he opened the door, and at once the engaged in a comforting, friendly hug.
"Thanks for letting me stay with you," Beth said into his shoulder.
"You know you're always welcome here; you always have been," Kevin answered as they pulled apart.
"You're so kind."
"I know this is hard, and I'm just trying to make this easier for ya!"
"A.J. wasn't to happy about this. He totally blew up!"
"Don't worry about it; all he needs is time. He is just like his mother, except for he got his father's rage! C'mon, let's bring your stuff in."
They walked out to the car and unloaded everything. Then they brought it inside. Kevin showed her to her room, and then they moved the boxes up to her room.
"I don't want to unpack these until I get a tour of the rest of the house," she said smiling to Kevin.
"Okay, this is your room," Kevin said in a teasing manner.
"Obviously!" Beth exclaimed.
He took her on a tour of the home. His room was across the hall, and the bathroom was down the hall from there. Also, there was a study that was equipped with a fax machine, computer, and phone. Kevin said that its main purpose was not for work, but communication with his friends and family, and Beth agreed that that sounded like him. Downstairs, there was another bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room. Off to the side of the kitchen, there was a dining room, but Kevin sadly said that it was rarely used because he usually just ate on a stool in the kitchen because he did not like sitting down to a dinner alone. He then led her back upstairs.
"Do you need any help unpacking? I would gladly help!" Kevin said slowly.
"Nah, it's okay...unless you want to?" Beth replied.
"I'd love to, but is there anything that you want to...keep to yourself? You know, I don't wanna invade on your privacy."
"You? Invading my privacy?"
"Yeah."
"Kev, I grew up with you! I lived with you...actually I lived FOR you."
"What do you mean?"
"You were all I had left and I didn't want to lose that."
"Aww, sweetie, come here. You're my best friend, and I love you for that."
They hugged, and then set to the haunting task of getting Beth unpacked. They spent the rest of the day doing that, and then Beth cooked him dinner. She set two places in the dining room, and said to Kevin, "I am going to make sure you sit down and actually eat dinner."
After a late dinner, the two made their way up the stairs and into their separate rooms. After saying good-night, they went to sleep.
